So, at the failure rate guesstimated by some above in this thread, we should have seen another 10 or so failed trannies.

The updated count of reported tranny failures (apart from 50+ LCs with high TQ cars) since October 2008 is: Zero

Amazing.
I'm guessing most owners have stopped using LC by now, so it doesn't surprise me if there is a drop in Tranny failures. If I paid 80 grand for a car and was told I would void the warranty if I used a feature, not to mention run the risk of tearing up a 20 grand tranny, I'd stop using the feature.

Which makes it the best thread ever created. It's like staring at a car wreck.

I heard about that. The Gt-r trannies are easily break and warranty doesn't cover, even it's not at fault.

Its about the name and desirability. No one would buy a Nissan at Porsche money.

BOTH 7:38 and 7:29 runs had the DUNLOP TIRES.

And bridgestones are better in the wet, better than both MPSC and Dunlops, so the GT-R technically had an advantage over the GT2 in the DR test and was suited with the best fit tires for the test.

Chris commented on how the GT-R sturggled with oversteer more than the GT2. I'd bet money the private owner of the GT-R had the most aggressive suspension settings you could get on that car, imagine how bad it would have been if he had on tires that are worse in wet conditions???
"The GT-R is harder to drift than a 997 TT or 997 GT3, thereforeif you are trying to drift, the GT-R will consequently get a fasterlap. Normal apexing and driving not included."

Can you provide a direct link with further info on the above sig please?

A GT-R is Cayman S money. That's a Porsche. Lots of people (like me) prefer the GT-R to the Cayman (even though Cayman is awesome car).

If you mean no one would buy a GT-R for 911TT money, I agree with you. A better question, however, is why people buy 997TTs for 997TT money........

The money's relative but a Porsche is an abosolute. Just like a Nissan (for some) is an absolute-NOT.

GT-R is Boxster S money in Australia. That's a Porsche as well. Now who in their right of mind (apart from P fanbois) would buy a Boxster S over a GTR?..

Mostly rich folks who can afford both GTR and Porsche. For these discerning buyers a car must be more than a mode of transportation. In the end a Nissan is just another run of the mill Datsun while a Porsche is still a Porsche.

Funny thing is that you have one that you paid 997TT money for... Sell it and get another GT-R.

Funny how you went from liking both cars(well sorta) to not even speaking of the Turbo that you cannot get around the track as well..

Glad the GT-R let you become faster around the track which it sounds like it met your needs. So why keep the Turbo?

I love the Turbo. In context if this thread, I just mostly defend the much maligned GT-R. If I had to pick one, I would certainly keep the Turbo. If my budget only allowed $70-80K for a single toy, I would take the GT-R over any other car on Earth (don't say: get a used 996TT-- I mean new car v. new car).

As modded, I am actually a couple of seconds faster in the Turbo (I thought I reported that)-- although I'll be at Thill this weekend with Dunlaps on the GT-R for first time, so we'll see.

I don't have a great answer as to why I have both. Prob a combo of mid-life crisis, being spoiled and being enamored with the new-new thing.

That's what my wife thinks. She hates the GT-R, BTW. Thinks it's big/ugly and doesn't feel as fast/raw/loud as the 997TT. She has literally NEVER driven the GT-R, but likes to drive the Turbo (has even done a few track days in it).
