SAT Radio / Ipod Connectivity?

Has there been any recent advances to make connecting an Ipod/Sat Radio more reliable? Last winter i was in the market to find something better than the cheap FM modulators but I gave up when reading numerous horror stories about what was currently on the market at the time.

I don't have the time to go back-and-forth to an install-shop to get the job done right, and from what I have read some of these units require alot of TLC to get it right.

Any suggestions?

Email me regarding the Dension product line. Full direct-to-the-loop integration (not crappy fm modulation), and sat radio audio can be integrated as well.

A quick and inexpensive fix if you have the iPod connector but don't have the Sat radio option is to download the XM Radio app onto your iPhone -- pay XM Radio about $3/mo and you have instant Sat radio. Suncoast also sells a charger & iPhone cable combined, as the one U get does not charge (same with other car models).

ERSKATEDOC will become famous soon enough
Sirius Radio

I just had Reus Audio (orange CA) update my system with an amp upgrade, new speakers, and Sirius radio. Its sounds outstanding. We were showing the system off at cars and coffee (Irvine) this week.

The used the Nav-tv direct link system, and the sound is perfect.

Thanks.. That is good to hear. I decided to go with the NavTV unit as well. It will be getting installed this week. I spoke to a very reputable installer that claims all the bugs have been worked out and the NavTV is the way to go.

What speakers did you go with? I'm wanting to upgrade speakers... Can i do this without upgrading amps? I'm just looking to improve overall quality.

I just bought a 997 with the Ipod cable attached to something in the glove box..I will see how it is set up...and one day get an ipod. The car does have Sat with subscription for the life of the car. Don't know how that happened, but cool.

all the bugs worked out? hah...I find that hard to believe...although mine now works about 70% of the time correctly so it's nearly tolerable.

How do you like the Reus system? I've thought about getting one of their systems a few times...

Well, that's your problem. I've checked with a very reputable installer, as well as several reliable porsche owners with NAVTV units and they all seem extremely pleased with the system. It appears that the earlier units and/or installations were unstable...The newer units / installs seem to be working as advertised.

Good luck...don't take it personally. I've had every update, had the actual system replaced with the newest model several times and it's still very unreliable.

I also have tooki, ipod and sat radio and they claim that having all 3 causes many of the problems.

I hope yours works flawlessly. I can tell you that the reputable dealer I used now dissuades people from getting it due to all the problems.

In the end, 70% to me is better than not having it at all.

Sounds like an installation / integration problem, not a hardware problem. Who did the install? Was it a dealer or someone that specializes in installation?

uhm... I can vouch for everyone's claims with the Navtv units both the good and bad, as I have mucho grande experience with them. So there is no need to go back and forth, there is about 30 variables to this causing problems or not

there is also possibilities of installation screw ups, but if it is really screwed up, nothing will work including basic FM or the CD payer

the main issue what everyone is experiencing is having old hardware, new software, with a unit that has the new hardware with the new software.

They did a cold weather fix on the chipset by soldering a lead from pin 1 to 40, about an 1/8th inch jumper.

there is a new download I just received in an email for it I believe.

I think the new systems which are USB upgradeable have come a long way, and I would trust a properly installed unit today

raclaims, I would suggest you contact NavTv personally and ask for Derek, express your dissatisfaction and let him know the problems you are having. they do work well with getting everything fixed.

Yes, it seems to work well, the only thing that messed me up was the lack of destructions when updating the unit. Also there was no confirmation of the update, I just happened to know it went through since the files were erased off the memory card... I was like WTF is this... fill in the blanks

For satellite radio, why not use the OEM kit for Cayenne which basically plugs right in?
