Ready to buy 09 TT but its missing the sport chrono package.
Hi everyone this is my first post. Im picking up a 2009 new black turbo tomorrow. It is missing the sport chrono package but has everthing else I consider perfect for me. How important is it and what will I be missing? List 137 down to 114 which I think is a heck of a deal. Should I pass on this one because of it missing the sport chrono? Opinnions please.
Love this web site thank you!!

I have Sports Chrono on my Carrera S and have never, ever used it because I don't track this car (I do track others, though) and haven't needed it for lap timing purposes. Now, I like the revised throttle map so much that I wouldn't buy a Carrera S without it as I drive with it on all the time!
Now, on the Turbo, the only way to get the overboost function is with Sports Chrono. Therefore, unless some tuner can provide me with an ECU reflash that will allow me to have the overboost function without Sports Chrono, I'd definitely pass on this car and get one with it. I think the only car in which it really doesn't matter much is on a 997.1 GT3 because it doesn't do anything more than timing your laps and some say there are far better units on the aftermarket for these purposes.
I think not having it will affect your resale value later on and you'll also miss out on having those 10 seconds of increased performance with the overboost. Skip this one! For example, I am looking at getting a 2007 Turbo with < 30k miles and, if it doesn't have Sports Chrono, I won't be even interested in looking at it. I am sure I don't represent a sizable proportion of buyers out there but it cannot hurt having it on the car, when it comes to resale.

Pass on it. Whether or not it's important to you (and it will be), it WILL affect it's resale potential and value. But sounds like you already committed to the purchase. Enjoy regardless.
Brand new...wow, great deal! Sports Chrono is over-hyped in my opinion. Most people will not drive the car to need that added performance capability. If you're looking for just extra boost (HP & TQ) and livelier pedal, just custom flash your ECU. A good tuner can program that capability (and more) without having any buttons to push. That might be all you need or want. I did that with mine, and I'm perfectly satisfied. No regrets. You can upgrade the suspension separately if needed. Even people with sport chrono do their suspension. For that price and brand new, I say go for it and enjoy!

You will not have the addtional over-boost in the mid-range and your resale will suffer immensely. If you plan to mod the ECU, that's your choice. 99% of used buyers will not want a turbo sans sport chrono.
Go for it if it has LSD.
You will end up upgrading the suspension and tuning the ECU unit anyway, so there is no use for Sports Chrono. Make a sad face and tell the dealer you will pick it up even without the Sports Chrono Package for $112k.
Edit: I just noticed that you have this car already listed in your "garage". Congratulations! Will you be able to sleep tonight?
I know many people don't care about selling the car in the future, but if you don't plan on modding, lack of sports chrono will hurt resale value.

I drive in sports mode all the time. Can't imagine the car without it. It's the first button I press right after I start the car. Resale will also suffer but that's only if you don't plan on keeping the car. IMO, it's a must-have option for the Turbo.

Agree 100%. I like the throttle response in sport mode and especially after I had my ecu re-programmed. If you plan on keeping the car for some time then you could get the ecu done and pretty much have the same effect without the suspension adjustment.
Without sport chrono the resale value will hurt. I didn't even look at any without it. There is a white one locally new with $156 msrp at $120 if you are interested

Gotta let it go. It will bug the hell outta me if I buy it and its missing something so important as that. That's probably why they have not sold it yet. I really appreciate all of your input on such an important decision. I have a 07 c4s cab with tip that I was trading in. Gotta dump the chicktronic its like playing a computer game when driving! Had it 3 months and my buddies are giving hell about it! I can still let the car go, If you know of a black on black with sport chrono let me know.
It's a fairly expensive purchase, you want to make sure you get it the way you want it. I would have walked away too.

+2 I think Neil sums it up perfectly.
