Possible to Delete Wing from 997 Turbo?
#17
Always thought it was funny with these pop -up wings that go up at 75mph that any Leo sitting on the john reads the forum and next day begins to pull guys over merely because the wing is in the ticket me position. For that reason alone I would select a different type wing.

I don't think you can lower it with the switch above 75. In fact, I think you have to be going a good bit slower than 75 to lower it with the switch. You can raise it with the switch at any speed below 75. If you don't want the wing going up at 75, I think you could disconnect the hydraulics to it.

This may seem like a weird question, but here goes. Can I replace the deck lid with an aftermarket piece or perhaps a replacement from a C2/C4 and thereby delete the wing from my 997 Turbo? If so, would this seriously reduce stablility or anything? Would this affect driving on local streets and freeways (say under 100mph) or just at the track? I guess that's more like three questions. I searched the forums, but couldn't find any discussion of this idea.
Thanks,

I really would suggest changing to a 4s. The wide body will look wierd. Think of the resale value. Who will buy your car? One of the things I liked most in the 997tt was the popup wing. It will also be dangerous. The back end of these cars have a wing for a reason. The car will lose its stability at higher speeds.

If you decide to go ahead with it I would suggest keeping to double digit speeds (since you are changing the aerodynamics the car was designed to have) and I would keep your stock parts so you can revert back to the wing when you go to sell the car.

that's because you are always speeding.

I agree that the wing is important for high speed stability but seeing that the 4S can go 185mph with that little rear wing I think you would be ok.
Yes, the aerodynamics are different on the TT and the 4S and the rear spoiler is designed to work with the front. But if all you do is random bursts up to say 125mph and you don't drive every day like you're on the autobahn, I'd say go for it!
Are you thinking about making it functional?

Yes, I want to have a normally operating C2 wing on the back. I love the way the TT looks in the pics that bonehead put up. Perfect lines.
