Boost Leak Test 997.1 Turbo
#16
So i am going to try and tackle this i think. Going to buy some 1.5 pvc tomorrow at lowes. 2 questions...
1. I know ppl are saying they have to lift the car but it seems to me i can see the rubber pipes that i need to cap just laying on my back next to the car. Is this not the case? It is the pipes coming out of the bottom of the turbo correct? Since the pipe going toward the front of the car is the turbo inlet and the one going out the back is obviously the cat.
2. The reason i am doing this is because it would seem my boost is a little low in normal mode specifically. I am only seeing 13-15 depending on the day (sea level 80-85deg). My mods are turbo inlet pipes, gt2rs int, kline with 200 cell, and cobb stage 2.
What psi are you stock turbo tune/exhaust guys seeing in normal mode? Mine stays above 17 easily in sport in all gears.

Bringing this back from the dead, as I'm hoping others can chime in and confirm a few things. I'm getting my car ready for some mods, and this seems like a very important thing to take care of prior to turning up the boost and to continually check after the boost is cranked.
Per the instructions on the first page, it states that a 1.5" PVC is required. That sounds a little narrow - can anyone confirm if that's correct, or should I go with something wider?
Also, if anyone else has any tips, notes, different methods or stories to share, that would be helpful. There are several threads that discuss this at length for the 996's, but not much for the 997's.
Thanks in advance,
Kyle

I did the boostleak test and found a big problem. My 4 clamps on the plenum where loose and I had a leak. The rubber sleeves where over oil and there was no chance to fill the gap between the plastic intake. I solved this, by replacing the the two rubber sleeves and a new plastic intake tube.
I ran FvD tune, 1.2 bar.
Problems solved:
1. Clamps are now tight even with only handwarm screwed.
2. Cold start spikes (up to 3500rpm) are gone since this fix. This gave my a nightmare. It is like a dream! To me it is now totaly clear, if you start the car, and the engine can suck fresh air after the throttle.
3. Cold start, engine runs now smothly.
Problems comes up now:
1. Car is now quiet like a Golf 1.4 TSI, no noise anymore from streaming air.
2. Car runs now like hell, so the stock clutch can not hold the power anymore.
The check the boostleak is for me a must do thing for a 8 year or more old car. It is worth to do this.
Check the post from "elfer". I Checked everthing in the path after the turbo until plenum.
I used the Audi Drucktester from Ebay. Great tool works perfect.

Nice... but 2.3 to 2.5 is too large for the stock 997 charge hoses. It is definitely 1.5 inch. Anything more than that will require adaptation...

This kit doesn't have the gauge or stopper as part of the kit. Plus you are stuck with a one size fits all diameter. The unit I ended up has a tapering width to fit both OEM and aftermarket intercooler piping and it has the guage and stopper on the other end.

Have you received the tester and tried it yet?
