CA 91 octane

Sorry if this has been asked before...As most of you know almost all gas stations in CA only go to 91 octane. So what do most of you do?

A) Fill with 91 and add octane booster (hear NOS brand is the best)
B) Keep a can of 100 octane at home and mix it in with 91
C) Just fill with 91

Thanks in advance.

There are select California Unuon 76 stations that have 101 octane...I know of one is San Jaun Bautista and one in the South Bay Area...go to their website there used to be a list

We have a 76 station here in Agoura Hills. I just
mix it up whenever i win from one any Indian Casino. The race fuel does cost a lot.

The Chesbro 76 does not have the 100 pump anymore. I used to go there for my race car starting when it was "only" $4.00/gal or so. Now they only have VP in drums at >$10/gal. The Alliance indy station across the 101 fwy still has pump 100 around $9/gal though. I don't need it for my TT which is fine on 91 using the Cobb OTS AZ/CA 91 map.

C. Just fill up with 91.

Been just filling up with 91 octane for year and years. No real problems with either my Boxster or my Turbo. Boxster has over 290K miles and is on its original fuel injectors, too. The Turbo has fewer miles but the engine and fuel system are just fine, too.

Just buy a name brand top tier gasoline and buy from a busy station.

Drive the car.

I wish I lived in Arizona at times just for the fact that you can get decent gas there. All I have is 91 in San Francisco - what's terrible is that the tank lid states the engine needs a minimum of 93

How long has California only offered 91 and how long has Porsche been producing cars that state 93 minimum - long time and no ill effects other than slightly less power as the ECU adjust for the 91. As Macster suggested use the 91 top tier gas and don't look back.

That's the least of our worries. In the next 20 yrs The Bay Area will be the first locale to outlaw gas engines, we'll all be forced to drive a Prius or tesla LOL!

Crazy. Especially for tunes cars. They should have support groups for us.

E85 is on the rise though.

I just buy a 55 gl drum of 100 oct unleaded Sunoco race gas and keep it in the garage. I put 4 gl in before I go fill every Tank, usually 4gl to 11gl. That works a out to be about 94 oct. I've been doing it for a couple years in my air cooled hot rod. I'll do the same when my Turbo gets here Thursday from RUF.

How would you safely store the race fuel? 55 gallons of fuel in your home would keep me worrying.

Which RUF? I see they are opening a US shop in Torrance soon.

I always have a jug or two of 100 at home as well for my track car. I just store them in a cool undisturbed corner of the garage. At first it seems scary but assuming you store cars in your garage, you've likely got 20-50 gals of fuel in them and never give it a second thought.

Mix it will e85. I run 2 gallons of e85 with a full tank of 91 on my S/C M3 and it loves it. Effective octane is 93+ and it burns cooler with the e25 content.
