Turbo upgrade

Hi all,

I believe a ballbearing went on one of my A3071s, they are for now @Tial's and I will know soon.
It is perhap's time to upgrade them a bit? (repair and custom built)
Fast spool stays the first goal.
Options could be going with 73 or 76 compressors, or going with some Xona stuff?
Thank you for input,
P.

Thumbs up

Subscribed. How long did the 3071 last? Very interested to hear if you decide to go for new Xona turbos. Heard lots about them but apart from seeing a 2000bhp dyno run not seen them in real world action.

New Alpha units come with XR bits, iirc center housing/ bearing / blades ....

A friend runs a Xona A3076 on a stock motor 997tt, HTZ is definitely an improvement over the HTA ....

We're a TiAL dealer. All Tial Alpha turbos that we send to customers today are with the new HTZ aero on the compressor, Xona centre section and upgraded wastegate actuators. Nothing wrong with the previous design and we're running them on our shop car making great power with the 3076s. We're looking forward to trying the new units as well as they weren't available yet at the time we did our build.

Definitely interesting. I think the older style Alphas had plastic bearings.

If I were to buy a set they would be as ProTuning Freaks described.

If I had your engine, the choice would be easy... I would have to go bigger than 3076

Thanxs for interest bros, in order of answers:

- my Alphas were bolted mid 2013
- yes the 3076s with the Xona/HTZ stuff seem pretty interesting
- very interesting knowing the new Alphas run HTZ blades as OEM, about the new actuators no interest because my WG are blocked, I run external Tial 44 WG because the internal WG are too small for a good boost control with a fully built 3.8 with cams.
-yes the HTA ballbearings cages are phenolic, the Xona's are steel
-thxs Woozy, yes my built engine could run some XR71s or HTA35s but I really want to preserve an ultra responsive feeling.

The trick would be same spool and +10lbs/min at top end, pethap's the XR custom 3076s?!

@K24F feel free to email me if you need other help/info on these. There are also options when it comes to turbine housings as well.

Thank you Dzenno,
Todd K, from who I bought my turbos told me Tial will probably quote an upgrade to XR6556s, I don't know how to compare them with the A3076s?

yes, it's always a trade off between fast spooling or top end

K24, unless you've got a custom XR unit on the way then there's no XR 6556. The smallest one they offer is a 6564:

http://www.xonarotor.com/products/xr...ers/147-xr6564

3076 is a 58mm compressor (inducer) with a 60mm turbine wheel. Compressor inducer on the 6564 is smaller 57mm (inducer) and turbine is 4mm bigger at 64.1mm.

XR 6564 flows 6lb/min more air than the 3076 it seems from their specs.

In terms of spool that'll depend on the AR of the turbine housing you go with. All the turbine housings are from TiAL and they're listed on that page. If spool is of ultimate importance than go with the .64 vband (not the Xona T3 .85). Due to better CHRAs from Xona and higher flow its definitely a better option than a 3076 today.

Looks like XONA ROTOR don't believe in small turbos, I like them already

A bit unexact my friend.
The Xona's naming convention is confusing vs the Garett's one:
-Xona numbers give the flowing+outlet turbine diameter
-Garett numbers give the turbine radius+compressor external diameter
