Exhaust/Tune 997 vs Bolt on 996?

I know power isn't everything in a car, but from what I gain, the 997 looks better (personal opinion), has a "better interior" (opinion), has more technological advancements and will have more power than an aftermarket turbo'd 996TT with just exhaust/tune/headers.
So really, the only reason one would buy a 996 > 997 would be for cost purposes I'm assuming.

You're assuming. Some prefer the 996, me being one. The 997 isn't that much more technologically advanced. It's more of a drivers car.

How do you justify the need the "extra car" in the 997. Everyone says the 996 is more "raw" and the 997 is a every day car. I'm buying the Porsche for weekend fun and to drive to work every few days the weekday when I feel like it. My daily driver is a intake/exhaust/tuned 2012 Mazdaspeed3.
My overall want in the Porsche is torque and usable power. The one selling point to me for the 997 is the fact that the turbos in the 997 are VGT so they are always spooling and will be quick to move the car if in the mid range when pushing around town. I know the modified K24's on the 996 will have great top end, but I don't want a 1-2k rpm powerband and big turbo lag (I'm not stating it will, I am just "guessing" it will be like that vs say a K16)
The other thing is "stress" on the motor. If you guys are telling me that I can just do exhaust/tune on a 997 and be in the 500awhp with close to 600awtq range to the wheels, then I don't need anything else.
