Cobb and a stock clutch 997.1 turbo

Hi guys I'm new to Porsche and cars. I'm planning on going slow with the mods. Wish I could do it all right away but can't. My question is can I do the Cobb with a stock clutch and stock exhaust for now? Then upgrade the exhaust when I'm ready for a new clutch? Or will the slightest gains fry my clutch anyway. What would you do first if money was an issue? (Slow Build)

I have had no probs with that setup/game plan. I've driven manual trans cars my whole life and am fairly easy on the clutch - I know how to properly heel-and-toe etc. Currently at 36K on original clutch with no noticeable slipping.

How much HP can I get away with

Thx, how much torque and hp do you think I can get away with? I probably won't track her (not sure you can track a cabriolet) till all mods are done. So could be a weekend car for a couple years.

Hi Rebel. Congrats and welcome! You should be fine up to tune and exhaust on a stock clutch unless it's on its way out anyhow. That's what's cool about the AP is that the stages are loaded in so you can go at your pace. The stock clutch is pretty solid up to 600/600 crank. Feel free to reach out if I can help with anything A-Z!

What fuel do you run?

On 91 equivalent, my old car held very well with an exhaust and a softronic tune, it only slipped when I filled with race fuel and mainly with high load (high gear low speed).

On 93oct and ESmotor's tune and exhaust, my current car held for about 1500 miles, as soon as the weather became more turbo friendly i was slipping all over under load.

If you use race fuel with the correct tune it's on borrowed time. The stock pressure plate is really not good for anything above stock power levels.

Good luck,

P.s. You can't make a thread and mention a new car without posting pics

Honestly my 10k mile clutch didn't hold past 11k miles with an EPL flash. I was launching the car to which I attribute a lot of the wear. I have seen similar outcomes in my friends cars as well. Bolt on cars are making upwards of 500whp and the clutch will not hold that for long, unless you just put around in it.

Very nice, it appears someone stepped up on the wood options. No "sport chrono"? Very nice interior and a 6MT, you did "good".

Plugs, coils, clutch and tune. Do exhaust later.
