For those of you that do not know about the Fabspeed Cold air upgrade kit for the 997 and 996 cars I thought I would take the time to show you the benefits of our kit. When we first took delivery of our 2005 997S in spring of 2004 our goal was to design an easy bolt on upgrade that made great power, while retaining the Factory Porsche airbox. The kit for the 997 is very similar to our Cold Air upgrade kit that we successfully designed for the 1999 to 2004 996 cars. Fabspeed products always undergo extensive testing before they're approved and released to the market. The testing helps ensure performance, reliability, and durability of the product. Extracting higher performance from an engine starts with the air it breathes. In general, the cooler the air, the better. Cooler, denser air improves performance because it has the ability to pack more air and fuel into the same place, resulting in more explosive combustion, which translates into more power! With the Fabspeed Cold air kit and BMC drop in panel filter you retain the factory airbox and factory MAF sensor location. For the MAF sensor to function properly airflow across it must be smooth, steady, and and follow a straight path. High turbulance can cause erratic voltage readings from the MAF. Fabspeed's 996/997 Cold Air upgrade kits never set-off C.E.L. lights.
Many people look at the Fabspeed Cold Air Kit and thinks it's just a piece of silicone tube that we just slapped on the airbox, and were unaware of the extensive testing of this product on the street and track. Fabspeed supplied the air intake for a number of 996 and 997 professional race cars in the Grand Am CUP and Koni Challenge series. We do not make false claims when we say that our products are street and track tested.
Many dyno equiped tuning shops and professional race teams have tried all kinds of air-intakes for 996 and 997 cars. BGB Motorsports (the #1 Porsche race team in Grand Am Koni Cup in 2007 & 2008) uses our Cold upgrade kit as you can see as it made the most power. Fabspeed has also supplied 996 & 997 Air intake upgrades to Synergy Racing Price Cobb, Bodymotion Racing Mike Bavaro and other front runners.

Any plans for an in box cold air intake kit for the facelifted 997.2 other than the currently offered dual intake setup??
We tried a couple different intakes on the new Direct injection 997 and were able to make the most hp and tq with the dual Fabspeed Dual cone air intake with full Carbon Fiber heatshield. Here is a dyno of the 997.2 direct injection before and after Fabspeed Dual Cone Air Intake

However, can you explain why your red rubber tube is better than the stock black rubber tube? I know that it's "smooth" on the inside, whereas the stock tube is ridged, so your piece removes any turbulence. And I understand how the red cap removes the Helmholz resonator. But is that it? Why would something so simple make the difference that your dyno graphs are showing? I guess I want to believe it, but am just skeptical.
I've got the EVOMS cold air kit on my '05 997S (along with many other mods, including your Fabspeed mufflers), and it's got several clear advantages over stock. The EVOMS kit is also smooth on the inside, but offers a different filter which acts as a venturi. It also offers some audible sound benefits.
And yes, your's is $225 vs. $595 for the EVOMS, but I just can't see how the smooth hose is that much better than OEM. Please, help me see the light.
Also: why are the airbox components in your pics wrapped in tin foil? Is that meant to keep the air flowing through cooler?

I agree with Cattman. Please educate me further regarding your kit for the 997. Could it be just the Air Filter that is making the majority difference?
I was very happy with my cold air kit I got it as soon as it came out. Never really tested the gains but the car did seem faster on the butt dyno and it sounds better without the helmholz resonator.
You know alot of the gains that the dyno is showing IMHO is from the BMC filter, not the Fabspeed part.

Here is the difference between the stock hose from a 997 and the Fabspeed Silicone Hose.
The Porsche factory 996 and 997 hoses are corrugated rubber hoses. Fabspeed silicone 4 ply hose is very smooth internally to eliminate boundary layer turbulence and results in an increase in airflow to the engine. Fabspeed eliminated the small side rubber tube that connects to the Porsche muffler/resonator on 996 and on 997 cars.
If anyone is near the Philadelphia area feel free to stop by our facility with a 997 or 996 and I will be more than happy to install a cold air kit with BMC filter and do a before and after dyno. You are more than welcome to contact the guys at BGB Motorsport and see why they use the Fabspeed cold air kit on their race cars. (The wrap on the Factory airbox is a thermal wrap to help keep the intake temps down even more)
The Fabspeed cold air kit gives you great sound by removing the Helmholtz resonator, and when used in conjunction with the BMC air filter you get a nice increase in power through the entire RPM range.

Do you have any dynos showing the gains with the Cold Air Kit alone, that is w/o the BMC filter?
The only dynos that I have are with both. The only cars that I have dynoed have had both installed, but the next time I get a car in I will do a dyno with just the Cold air kit.
