2009 Carrera /S What kind of pricing are you getting?
Since this is a new model, I'm supposing that some dealers might be inclined to charge a premium or negligible discounts, but car dealers are suffering.
Just curious has anyone ordered and priced out an 09 model? What kind of prices have you been getting?

there are discounts avail on '08's. Stutgartt will lower production on '09's to stabilize pricing in relationship to demand.

I would think that in LA you could make a decent deal.
I know for a fact that some dealers are reaching out to serious buyers there. Understandably the gross dealer margins are slim-7% to 10%- but I would think no dealer would risk losing a sale for a few bucks. |

I asked down here in SoCal and the same places that are willing to do 10-12% off an 08 have said no discounts on the 09's.

I've been quoted 2.5-3% here in the Mass - basically no discount, just a "courtesy" for previous business.

Simgr - First off 2,500 to 3,000 is hardly considered a courtesy discount, that is pretty good on a car that is in serious demand.
I have asked many dealers in So CA and most are MSRP. It has been confirmed that there is a 40% less distribution from Porsche AG to North America, largely due to the weak dollar and increased profits in other countries. For example, in most of Europe (countries that trade in the Euro), a base 2009 S is around $130K USD. Same thing in the UK and the UAE. Basically, the US is one of the cheapest places to purchase a luxury car right now, by a large margin. The fact that it is a complete redesign of the 997 (and should be called a 998 if the chief engineer decided to), the price increase from 2008 is very little: $2,400 USD. So, even if you pay MSRP, I think the car is a relative bargain, compared to other cars and compared to the same car in other countries. A few grand is meaningless on a 100K purchase. I don't think you could call the 09 a 998. New engine and available PDK are the biggies, facelift, but no chasis or other changes. That being said Porsche is trying to stabilize the price of 09's based on what my salesman said (known him since elementary school).

If you read all the literature on the 09 Carrera, the magnitude of engine/intake/exhaust changes easily warrant a new model designation. It was purposefully not called a 998 as the 997 is still relatively new. There was an article with the chief production engineer/designer of the 09 Carrera and he says this is a model change in all definitions of the word; not a facelift or update.

interesting, if porsche really does cut their allocations significantly on the 09+ 997 models, it should help the values of the 05 - 08 cars.

So your telling me that since Ford is going to change to an all new engine on the MKZ next year that it should be a whole new model? It is an awesome new engine no doubt, but I won't go that far as to say it should be a 998. Link to the article please, I'd like to read it.

1995 993 engine was different than 1996 993, the '96 bumped up 12 bhp due to varioram technology - both models were 993.
1999 996 engine was different than 2000 996, the '00 bumped up 4 bhp due to minor exhaust change. 2001 996 engine was different than 2002 996, the '02 bumped up 20 bhp due to tech improvement. Additionally the 2002 had front bumper update, added glove box, drink holder, and real glass rear window for the cab. Still a 996 all the same.

I dont see a discount in your future ordering an 09. But I see deep discounts on cars on the lot. Time will tell but I have no doubt 09's will sell at a discount 4,5 months into 2009 if they collect dust on the lot. They would have to drop production a lot to prevent this happening in the USA, car sales are down, way down and people are not buying. Factor in the potential for crap lease rates and it adds fuel to the fire.
