Winter tires for Carrera S(2)

Any recommendations on which winter tire is best on a 997 Carrera S. I am going to use a set of 18" stock Carrera rims and I understand that both Michelin and Pirelli make winters specifically for these rims.

Thanks

i think dunlop might also too-the best idea is for you to call tire rack (advertised on this web site) and ask them for advice on what to buy-their web site also has an engine that will give recomendations. you are definitely correct though-if you are going to drive that porsche in the cold weather, even if it is cold dry weather, you need winter tires. your summer tires will harden up like a piece of plastic in the cold and you will lose traction. if it snows, you will be fine with winters (even with rwd), but if you try and drive the car with summer tires in the snow, fugetaboutit! good decision on your part-just call tire rack. enjoy

I am running Conti TS810S in 19" on my C4S. They worked great in a snowy Colorado winter last year. Good price through Tire Rack

I ended up getting the Pirelli Sottozero 240 18's. I will post my comments on their performance once the snow flies in Calgary

I use Michelin Pilot Alpins on my C4. So much fun blasting by the idiots in Exterras and garbage rubber.

I've used Pirelli 240 on my ex-996C2 thought 3 winter in Toronto without any problem.

Lightbulb

If I lived in Snowville, I'd use a compact car or an SUV for Winter driving.

The 977 isn't exactly what I'd call a cheap, compact car.

You will be surprise how well and fun those Porsche preform in snow. Why stuck in a SUV half year when you can have fun all year around!

Actually, its the sub zero temperatures that I need the tires for. Not much snow in Calgary any more.

I have waited about 35 years to get a 911, it was built to be driven in the winter, so I am going to drive it every chance I get.

Did any of you have any failures and did the 'N' rated tires from TireRack work well with the tire pressure monitor ? I'm considering going with the 18" instead of the 19".

265/40R18 XL Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 Blackwall N2 (Porsche) vs the

295/30R19 XL Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero Serie II N1 (Porsche).

Porsche recommends an All Season Nokian WR. Anyone on these P 'ducks' ?

Love some feedback.

I had problems with the Pirellis, the 18 inch front tires were defective (something that prevented them from properly balancing). Tried another set but they were from the same defective batch and had the same problem. Ended up switching to the Michelin Alpins. Very happy with them.

Pirelli snowsports 240s stock size front and 265/40/18 rear on 18 inch carrera wheels. So far, they have been great.

Since I too am in Colorado, can you elaborate how much you drive in the winter and how the C4S performs as a daily driver during the winter? Thanks
