Tubi & AWE

I know that exhaust threads are common place, but I have searched for opinions on X-51 headers, Tubi Mufflers and AWE Cats but have only come up with one opinion. I already have the X-51 headers and Tubi Mufflers and love the sound. I would like to add the AWE Cats for increased power, but understand that it will also increase the sound. I am not scared of loud, but do not want it to sound terrible. Any one have this setup, or any opinions on it?

Buy the AWE Cats, just get the new version and buy them direct from AWE and you should be OK. Just don't sell them!

No, it's ok to sell them as long as they are HJS

That is assuming that they work well. I don't think AWE put the first generation in the market expecting them to tank. Warranty is not transferable.

As I recall someone described tubi with 200 cats as sounding "like a fire truck". And not in a good way. You may have to find out and report back.

I don't think tubi mufflers are designed to work with high flow cats

I tried Tubis with AWE cats and thay sound appalling! Don't go there.... The Tubis do very little by way of silencing the exhaust - they rely on the inbuilt ability of the restrictive standard cats to do most of the silencing and just modify the resulting sound. With the standard cats they give you possibly the best sound you can get for these cars (but little or no extra BHP).

Swap in 200-cell motorsport cats with the Tubis and the car is close to open pipe. It just sounds like it has a bloody great big hole in the exhaust somewhere! Dire! Makes your Porsche sound like a tractor...

I have the full AWE system now. Didn't like it at first, but the sound's changing with miles and getting better by the day. It will never sound as good as a Tubi but it does make the car noticeably quicker.

I have the AWE cats and mufflers and it sounds fantastic (just installed this past weekend!). I chose the AWE full system b/c it's not as loud as the tubi or fabspeed offerings. Just thought it was worth pointing out that sound is significantly improved over the stock 997S over the entire powerband in all gears. It absolutely screams above 5000 RPM in 2nd and 3rd gear. Sorry this doesn't shed light on your question, but just wanted to post in case switching your current mufflers is a consideration.

Does anyone have a video clip with their Tubi's running AWE cats?

This is the issue and I don't think many realize that when they shop for an exhaust.

If you think you may want to go w hi flo cats at some later point better to start w a muffler that has been voiced that way in a complete system. The Tube may too loud when used that way. Unfortunately the maj. of the hp/tq gains are from the cats.
