Uh, you can buy a group 48 interstate battery from a local auto parts store for under $100. If you plan on leaving the car sit for more than a few days at a time without a trickle charger, do not install a lightweight battery.
An OEM battery does not weigh 50lbs (far from it). However, good replacements are Interstate or DuraLast and they weigh just as much. And in my view weigh savings in a 911 is better done towards the rear not towards the front.

Also look at the B3121 it is the same as the B3121C except that it does not have a carbon fiber shell. The batteries in our cars are covered so save the $.
Also the minimum size I would go with is the 3121 for a street car.

After 3 years of use, with a lot of short trips, my battery was about done for, a couple jump starts. Instead of bitching it to the dealer, I had a rennline battery tray with an Odyssey 925 battery tray installed. Great looking parts, but insufficient reserve capacity, if the car sits for more than a few days. It will start up the first time, but not the second, unless it is run for a long time. Had it changed to a regular 997 battery.
I've decided to become the next battery crash test dummy on this forum. Purchased a Braille 3121c (yes, the c is a total waste, just wanted it) for my street 997S cab. Over the top unnecessary, but could not resist some interesting technology. Live in No. CA so not too harsh on the cold weather front. But do have a Cab, which sucks extra power now and then. And, though I really don't want to, I don't have a huge problem with an occasional trickle... so to speak. We shall see...

Tony from Voltphreaks here. One battery that would save weight even over the Odyssey 680 (which is 15 pounds) is the VPH700 at 5.25 pounds. Should last in the car for 2+ weeks, too. One user here just installed one:
ya the battery in my ride is losing its juice as well...
why do the batteries keel over so damn easy seemingly?
weird...
I have an 06 997 s
I'm up here in Canada...do these 3121's sell up here? and is that what i'm asking for when I go into buy one? (sorry...never had to replace a battery before)
If you have a garage try not to have the alarm armed when parked inside. Another thing is you will want a trickle charger regardless of battery if you park it for extended periods of time. Don't be cheap when you buy a charger either. I've used the battery tender with good success.
