Difference between PSM & Traction Control
Sorry if this has been discussed before, but read this today:
Six airbags (including side curtain), antilock disc brakes and stability control are included on all 2007 Porsche 911 models except the GT3, which does without the stability control.
I noticed that the GT3 has "traction control"....but not "stability control"....what's the difference?

chuck-i had a 996tt-i am sure that it had traction, and i am pretty sure it had stability. i think that the 996 gt2 and gt3 didn't.

I had two 996 cars (non Turbo) . At the time PSM (traction) was an option. In the early model it engaged a bit too easily (IMO) .
The 997 model also has the PSM mated with the variocam plus engine . PASM also includes suspension settings (only familiar with "S" model) . What the sport chrono offers is a "medium" (sport) setting as opposed to it either being on or off.
As for the 997.2 --I don't know yet.
Turbo has PTM (porsche traction management AWD) and PASM (suspension) .

Stability Control uses brakes to control the car in a slide. It can control the brakes to one or more wheels.
Traction Controls the amount of power sent to the drive wheels from the engine.
I was at a track day in the rain, we closed the track down and used a long sweeping corner as a skid pad. I turned my PSM off and tried to throw the back end out. Once the back end went loose (turned wheel hard and hit the gas at the same time) my car went around in a 360. PSM works very well, try throughing your rear end out in the wet with both PSM on and off, you will be surprised how much it does to save your but!

Let me add: stability control is often referred to a "yaw control" where yaw means "to deviate from the planned course". it works all 4 wheels to keep you on the road. traction control modulates power to the right and left rear wheels to minimize wheelspin. if you have 4 wd....errr hmmm. Well it still works because yaw control is watching the steering input and where the car is going to end up while tc is just looking for rear wheel spin hope that helps Gerry

PSM will throw a quick light but your hands are usually too full at the time to see it, if you get my "drift". In severe conditions the car will intervene aggressively as the brakes grab and the engine cuts down while it catches you (guess how I know). You will know something just happened. Even Porsche driving school (do it) didn't prepare me for the violence of the action on a dry street. I have not made the same mistake since (too much throttle on cold tires around a 90 deg. corner). Never had TC on a Porsche but if you break the rears loose from a start it flashes you to tell you what you already know.
