Are the BMC filters oiled? Is there a risk with the Mass Airflow Sensor and the Check Engine Light going on?? Also how does just changing out the filter effect the sound?

The BMC filter is oiled. Before replacing my paper filter, I wrapped the BMC in newspaper the night before to absorb any excess oil that may have come from the factory. There wasn't any. I know that it may be an overcall on my part, but "better safe than sorry". With that said, I have had no problem since the replacement ~ 200+ miles. In my experience, there's no change in sound as far as I can tell.

So what is the advantage of using the BMC filter then? There is a risk with the oiled filter then to set off the CEL. Is it really worth it? Also the risk of long term engine damage as the filers allow more air but also allow more dirt into the engine. Is this true?

Well, if you're looking for a night and day performance, the filter is not it; however, it does make the upper rev range smoother and less "choked" and more fun to stay in .
That, for me, is the advantage of this filter.
As with any aftermarket performing products, there's always a compromise. Only you can determine the risks you're willing to take for the price you're paying. With that said, in my experience, I've yet to come across an engine that is damaged from a properly maintained higher flowing filter. I guess the question is, how many miles do you need to see the damage? I suspect there may be more sludge in the engine from the freer flowing filter; however, with regular oil/filter change, I think that can be minimize to some extent. I'm sure other more experienced and knowledgeable members can give further insight to this question.

I'm glad to hear there are no issues since I have 2 of the BMC filters on order for my X51 airbox. I guess that means that I have 2X the probability of fouling my MAF
I got 900 miles on my BMC Filter. I put the Fabspeed CAI in as well at the time. And I can attest the difference between my car b4 the CAI and Filter is NIGHT & DAY. The car breathes way better and no problem w the CEL or anything. Def a great filter no doubt.

Please keep us posted with performance over the long run. Thanks
I was wondering the same. Just purchased a 2006 C2S and looking to replace the airfilter but have heard some like the BMC filters and some like the K&N. What is the better air filter for the C2S
I just installed two BMC air filters into my X51 airbox and now I have a slight noticeable hesitation on hard acceleration. I am going to go back to the paper filter to see if the BMC filters are the problem.
