Oil comsumption issues

I have also posted this on Rennlist:

997.2 has 2700 miles on it. Engine check oil light came on.
The level was at the lowest level. Took it in and they topped it off with 1 quart. Level then showed it to be full.
Drove home. I checked it again, and it was 0.4 quarts low (one mark below full). Topped it off. Drove around. Seemed ok.
This am, took the car to work. Checked and its one level below the top (0.4 quarts low) again.
Not sure what Im doing wrong....or does the car have an issue?

I would take it to the dealer, something isn't right. I use a little oil when I am on the track, but never have I used that much in such a short time.

Yeah it does seem excessive.

Have the cars first track day coming up in two days. May have to cancel that.

Bummer.

The new DFI cars are burning oil, a lot more than the previous engines. Also they produce a lot of soot too which I wonder how Porsche got this engine to pass EPA reg's.

My 09 Carrera S burns oil and soots. Porsche will not do a darn thing about it unless it burns more than 1 qt in 600 miles. It will burn this at the track but not in street driving where it now burns somewhere around 1 qt ever 900-1200 miles.

Never cancel a track day, that is blasphemy!

Be like the guys in the 951's (944 Turbo) and bring 3 or 4 jugs of oil and keep adding it between sessions.

yeah but he might be losing 0.4 quarts just driving home. It could be a leak.

It will be interesting this aftrenoon when I have to drive back home and see what the oil level looks like.

Also wonder if the electronics for measuring the oil could be wacky, and its not accurate.

If a new car burned any oil and the delaer required it to burn more in order to fix it.....I suspect that there are some who would make sure it burned far more than the limit in order to get a new engine.

And for the hassle, give me a 3.8 rather than my 3.6 engine

Do you think people would actually want that to happen?

My tech says dont worry about it. He says dont let it fall below the lower level.

Keep watching it. He doesnt seem too impressed with the electronic dipstick for accuracy at least.

He says take it to the track.

Yesterday he also told me the car should be driven aggressively.

I like your tech, he is a man after my own heart.

Ask your tech how many cars that are driven harder show up for warranty work, versus those that are babied. I bet the harder they are driven, the less problems they have.

I wanted to do brakin on the track, but almost everyone I spoke to told me not too. This is the first car I have owned that has become somewhat a garage queen. Dont know why, but I did.

No more!

I'm going to drive the bugger like God intended Porsches to be driven! If thats what it takes.

Might cure your oil issue.

I drive the snot out of my car, and have yet to make a warranty claim on it. I go to the dealer to shut off the side airbag warning in the spring, and turn it back on in the fall after I do a seat swap for the track season (track seats don't have bum warmers)

I am probably going to drive this car in the winter. Bum warmers are a must in the upper midwest for winter.

What seats do you use in summer?
