Wait or buy now?

So I left a small deposit down at a local dealership some time ago for a MY2010 PDK Turbo. The car was supposed to be built November, and delivered by January, but it looks like that may be delayed even further. As patient as I am, I'm not entirely sure I feel like waiting 6+ months to get a car. I am therefor left with two options: 1) suck it up and wait or 2) get a pre-built MY2009 C4S that is somewhat close to what I am looking for. The more and more I think about it, the more I feel that what many of you were saying before was true - why pay $160k for a car (Turbo) when you can get something reasonably close for half the price.

What do you think? Will I have any luck finding something new on the lot close to what I am looking for (C4S, white, PDK, sport bucket seat, full leather, sport chrono, nav, sport exhaust)? I checked with a few dealers around me, and there was only one MY2009 PDK C4S I found sitting on the lot. I rather not go with used, as push comes to shove, you never REALLY know how it was treated before. Opinions, suggestions, and pointers to any cars sitting around are all welcomed.

I would keep the order in, how much are you going to drive it during the winter.

If you are hell bent on having a Porsche now, buy a used 997TT and drive it until the new one arrives and trade it in on the one you ordered.

The deposit was only $1k, so I don't mind losing it if the dealer refuses to give it back. Last year, "winter" didn't truly set in until about mid to late November, which gives me at least 4 good months of good driving. Plus, there is no law that says I can't drive it in the winter.

I rather not get something temporary as I don't want to risk getting stuck with it or losing a ton of money on it come trade in time. I much rather either just get something now that I'm going to keep or wait for a while. I'm bordering on the side of just finding something that's already out there and scoring a great deal on it, but I'm having an issue finding what I want.

First off, you'll get your deposit back. The order hasn't even been processed yet. Secondly, who knows if they'll even make your car. Last winter production shut down for a long time and my 09 C2S build was delayed a couple of months. Sales have since dropped, inventory is piling up, etc. Me, I'd look around for an 09 that's slightly used and get it CPO. Or, make a great deal on something new on the lot.

Get on the Porsche USA WEB and you can search state by state if you like, or have your dealer do it for you. The advantage of doing it yourself is you know what compromises you might be willing to accept on options, color, etc. It is a hassle since there is no "global" search - you have to view each dealer one at a time.

Finding an '09 now could be tricky - big promotions earlier in the year have really slimmed down the choices, but who knows - still some good cars out there.

I wouldn't wait that long, but that's just me. You could always buy mine and drive it around until yours is ready

I figured that would be the case, which is why I would post up here and see if anyone at least knew of a car sitting on a lot that was close to what I was looking for.

A dealer mentioned to me that porsche is really scaling back 2010 production cars until the 09 cars are mostly gone. No idea how true that is or not.

Has porsche officially announced that the turbos will get PDK? I know they will at some point, but hadn't heard it announced yet, but i haven't been following the turbo genre too closely.

Porsche is in a world of financial hurt and they may never build your car as an independent manufacture. Porsche is carrying a $ 9 billion debt load from their attempt to buy VW and at this point they my become a division of VW and not the other way round. If you want to drive a new Porsche there should be ample cars to chose from if you expand your search nationwide. Dealer can ship you the car you want for a reasonable fee and any Porsche dealer will honor the warantee.

I personally wouldn't wait for 6 months... The 997.2 C4S has 385HP which should be more than enough. Why waste 6 months waiting instead of enjoying a nice Porsche in summer?

If the car pretty much has all the options that you want, I think you should buy the 09 C4S.

You should also consider buying an '09 Turbo. I just picked one up recently at a sizeable discount. The expected changes for the '10 weren't enough to make me wait, especially considering the deal I got.

cam, check out 'porsche exchange' dealer outside of Chicago in Highland Park. They have a turbo coupe in white with your goodies. Not a C4S PDK, but I am sure you could get one hell of a deal! Good luck with your search.

I would wait and get the Turbo . You comitted to the decision on the day of your deposit and of course you can change yoir mind but I recall deabting this with you back then and you stood so firm on getting exatly what you wanted and the best PDK car of 2010 . Why settle now ? You are almost there.

Wait for the turbo. You seemed to be very, very, very particular with the specifics/options on the car you want (I think you had already searched for a long time pretty much every dealer in the U.S. and couldn't find your "perfect" car) so I'm pretty sure you'd never be able to find a C4S with what you want. Wait for the turbo, get the option sheet out when the time comes, sharpen the pen/pencil, and check away.
