Angry Another Fuel Pump Problem

Driving home, car bucked at around 2800 rpm then got the "reduced engine power" warning and reduced power. Decided to drive home, once in the garage car does not seem to want to start, I may not be letting it crank enough. Symptoms are identical to the ones in this thread 09 engine problem!!!

I hope I can get it started because my garage is at the bottom of a curved steep slope and it will be a biatch to get it out of there. I will take the other car tomorrow, and call the dealer. And I thought only BMWs with the TT engine had this problem. Only 800 miles, March 2009 build.

The pumps may be from the same company that BMW uses ie; Bosch etc.

Why not have your dealer flat bed the car or call porsche roadside asst to do it?

Was the car low on fuel? and is it possible that you could have some bad gas in there that had water in it?

I only ask because we have run into similiar problems and it was water in the last two or three gallons of the fuel.

I am going to call them now, if I can get it down there that will be the fastest way of doing it. I am only about 4 miles from the dealer.

I have about 1/4 tank, maybe more. The symptoms are classic fuel pump failure, I have read enough threads on BMW boards, the TT engines have been plagued with it. But we will see.

Update-Dealer wants it towed in (using dollys) so I have to call roadside assistance.

Best wishes vexed. Keith will take care of you; especially if you're a PCA-Hawaii member .

Thanks, I just watched Don's Makiki take it away. Luckily I was able to start it and get it up to the street where various warning lights came on.

I am a PCA-Hawaii member, you missed a nice picnic.

I have about 28,000 miles on my 2008 BMW 535. I have not yet had any repairs on it. Some 535 owners have had problems with the HPFPs but I do beleive some of the problems are actually with the injectors or ignition systems. I do reve my car up from time to time. Perhaps this gets the gunk off of the intake valves. Remember, with direct injected engines, there is no fuel ( with detergent) spraying in front of the intake valves. The nonly time I havd a problem was when I let the fuel level get down to "0" ( dumb to let that happen). I filled it up and about 10 miles later, I got the engine malfunction/reduced power message. I turned the car off and re-started. After re-starting it did not run very smoothly for about 2 minutes. After that...no problems again. That was about 2000 -3000 miles ago.

Yeah, I heard it was a great success for the first annual Porsche-Corvette Picnic. Are you going to the PCA meeting this Sunday?

Keith will do you right.

Keith called me and asked "Do you want a job?" He then told me my diagnosis of the HPFP was spot on, they ordered the part and if all goes well I will have the car back on Friday.

I did not know there was a meeting on Sunday, where and when? I may be Porsche-less.

Hahaha, great! Love this forum. Gave you the info you needed and made his job that much easier.

So, the monthly PCA meeting for interested member is this Sunday @ 9:30 AM, MidPac Country Club, Lanikai Rm. They'll be discussing about the preparation for the Labor Day Weekend Concour event, among other things. It's a nice get together of Porsche guys/gals for breakfast and club businesses. You should have gotten an email from Ambro.

Don't worry, most of the guys who attend this meeting bring their "Beaters" anyway. I will proudly display my 2008 EX-L Honda Accord Sedan ...as I too am w/o my beloved Porsche .

Got the car back late this afternoon. I was there earlier to buy some things and watched the tech drain the coolant. I have only driven it back to the office but it is nice to be back in the car.
