Time to turn in the E63 and I am looking at the Porsche. Many people have raved about the new PDK. This car will be a DD for me AND the wife. Thinking about the PDK for that reason. Question...With some MINOR mods(intake, exhaust) can the 997.2 'S' reach the 415-425HP mark. I understand the turbo will still be faster but not by much..I would think. What do you guys think who have experience behind the wheels of these fine autos?

With prices of the 997 TT coming down, I think you can get one for just a little more than the S. My advice is for you to go out and drive each car. If you are looking for an automated gearbox, just get the tip, once you've upgraded the S, you'll end up with the same money as the Turbo. I would personally recommend the 6sp, but if your wife isn't into that, go for tip.

Daily driver = 997.2S
All out monster = Modified 997 Turbo
Trading out of an E63 you will miss the power but be prepared to blow at least 10 grand just to get warmed up with basic mods . You can leave the 997.2S stock if you wish . It's fast , ride height won't scrape that front lip , and it's certainly a very beautiful car.

If you know a dealer selling a new decently optioned 09' Turbo for $100K or less please let me know. I will be there in a heart beat.

The Turbo is fantastic to drive. I look forward to everytime I get behind the wheel of mine. Either car would make a fine DD. My advice would be to test drive both cars back to back to see which you like best. Coming from the E63, my guess is that you'll probably be drawn to the power of the Turbo...

Thanks guys for the input. I have always had my eye on the turbo for my next car but I have been to the track often this year and have seen many 'S' 911's run mid 12's. Have also seen some turbos have a hard time breaking into the 11's. Now I have driven both cars in the past(not extensively) and the turbo always seemed quite a bit faster. However, alot of people talk about the PDK and how it shifts super fast and has bridged the performance gap with the turbo.

Go for the Turbo. Great engine (legendary GT1 based block), you can modify the turbos, and it's just as civil as a daily if you keep the suspension stock. It will also be familiar to you since the Tiptronic transmission was borrowed from Mercedes.
