Auctions...who has experience with a buyer's broker?
Although I was in the market for another 996, some price checking on 2006's is leading me to believe that I should probably be looking at a 2006 997 coming off lease.
I've seen several cars that I would be interested in (regular C4, 20K-30K miles, 6-speed, with some decent options like NAV and Chrono) selling for in the mid-$40k's. I'm thinking that buying from an auction might help me get a better price on a car that I would like.
Anyone here used a broker to get their car?

I've used a broker to get several cars from the auction. The last being my wifes 06 Cayanne S(Titanium Ed.) about 1 1/2 yrs ago. I actually attended the auctions w/ my broker, so I'm able to see what he actually pays for the car! Some brokers place a percentage ie. 3,5 or 10% of what they buy the car for. others charge a flat rate no matter what they get from the auction. The latter being the better option for cars that cost more than others! If you can find a broker who is willing to let you attend the auction, the better off I think you'll be! It's a great experience! Especially when you see how cheap you can get these cars!
I had heard of some people charging around $1,000 to $1,500 or so to get the car you're looking for (although I don't have any contact names). A 10% fee would almost wipe out any advantage to buying at auction!
I don't know what auctions would be in my area (South East); but, I would certainly travel for the right auction.

I said 10% because some of them are delusional!!! My guy charges me around $1200, which isn't that bad. The auction I frequent is Manheim here in PA, they also have other auctions located all over the country. You should be able to locate one near you, also see if they'll let you attend!
I am a whole sale auto dealer and I buy good clean Porsche's from action all the time. Just because they are at auction doesn't mean they are hammered. (Although a lot of them are) I just bought a 2006 C4S with 11k for auction 3 weeks ago and is was a US Bank Car repossessed car. No stories, just someone who couldn't afford his payments anymore. I know porsche well and I can shop you a car. I buy either from auction or Walters Porsche Riverside or even Sterling BMW Newport Beach if something clean rolls in. PM me and I can give you all my info and you can tell me what you are looking for. Take care.
