Also, I've heard mixed things about the Porsche cpo. Dealers say it is a direct extension of the original warranty, but I've read of people with electrical problems (I can't remember exactly what) that weren't covered.
depends when the car pruschased with cpo...it changed after 7/08 to be more like a new car warranty

I'm really worried that I'll begin to hear more than one voice, but the other one will tell me to hurt myself! JK
if you are buying a weekend toy and not going to race it and mod it at all - buy an 'S' car as it has better set of options to begin with and those nice red calipers people like to stare at - means better resale value.
If you going to drive it hard and race it and will eventually replace struts, clutch, brakes, antiroll bar, links, rims, exhaust, ... - you get the idea.
all those 'voices' in the head go away quite fast when you are out there and is repeatedly beaten by miatas and other strange little cars that have fractions of your car`s power and potential but got much better drivers.
As of lack of raw power on 3.6L engine compared to 3.8L engine - it is a total baloney. When you`ll get to the point of not having enough raw power from 3.6L motor - it`s time to get into GT3. but it will take looong time.
If you search here you can get a line on a shipping co. I can dig up the leads if you can't find them.
Just be sure to get a PPI from a dealer. You should be good.

I am willing to fly and drive (or ship). Any recommendations with 3rd party inspections and shipping?

I drove 2 911's (09 non S pdk with sport chrono and 09 C4S 6 speed without sport chrono) and an 08 M3 cab 6 speed yesterday while waiting for my car to be serviced. I really liked the driving dynamics of the 911 and enjoyed the pdk much more than I thought I would, but after trying to get into the back of the 911, I have come to the conclusion that my admittedly taller than average 8 year old will not fit back there with any measure of comfort. The M3 had more room, but it was a totally different driving experience. Back to the drawing board for me, I guess.

My 12 year old nephew did not protest much when I drove him in the back seat of my car.
But his head was quite close to the roof. I am 6' and I do not fit there at all, nor my wife - she is 5'7". So, well, headspace for rear seats is quite small, it is true.
I see leg space as a problem as well, as I have the front seat back quite a bit (6' 2"). I even wondered if my 4 year old would fit with a booster seat, quite honestly. Maybe I need a panamera cab?? (yes, I realize that there is no such thing.)

mine fits fine but I agree, there are no much space back there. plus my legs are probably shorter than yours. proper position in 911 is to be almost vertical and be as close to front as you can. at least I was instructed so and find that for real in this seating position driving on auto-x is easier. when I sit like that there is almost a whole foot from my seat to rear seat edge. On a street I push seat a bit back as it hurts to drive long trips in such position.
on other side of things - I would never get into M3 now after I got used to 911. there is no substitute.

I agree about the M3. I just wish the 911 cab would have worked out for me.

The M3 is the way to go then . It came down to space for me too and I also have an M3 and have to keep the car . I don't like the DCT though and the manual just lacks the fluid shifting of Porsche .
The ideal setup is two cars . The 911 for you and a larger sedan for family or friends. Plus you can preserve the miles on the 911 and save it for special drives.

What don't you like about the DCT? I've not driven one. I did drive an 06 M3 cab with smg and I didn't care for it much. It was totally different than the PDK.
This would be a third car, but I like to take my wife and kids along. I may even end up test driving an infiniti g37 convertible!
