my boy is trying to decide, which one to buy. I own a c4s, the horsepower and performance is very good, but i haven't driven a 996tt as of yet, so please give me feedback to help him out, thanks
p.s feedback especially if you have driven both...

I test drove before buying my car a stock 996TT, it felt very fast, but didn't like the on/off switch nature of the engine with the turbos
Recently we went with the local club out for a Sunday morning drive, breakfast, chat, etc. and the leader of the group was a 996TT, Tiptronic. I was behind him and each time he floored it, he couldn't get away from me. We were dead even

PDK and driver is a great equalizer. The first drive I did where I live we had a 997CS stick, new and my 996tt was stock at the time. I can tell you that everytime he went WOT compared to me it looked like he had a deployed chute. There was no comparison, the 996tt has so much more torque. the 997 had upgraded exhaust and tuning, but it was stick not pdk.

the TT has gobs of torque that the 997S doesn't have. That said, I've owned turbo cars before and I much prefer the throttle response of N/A cars.
I don't disagree with that. A well tuned NA car is lots of fun and on a track much more predictable. Turbo cars can have really bad lag, but you can make them have much less lag, and it does help, but it can be scary if you haven't learned to not go WOT until you straighten out.
That is why I started another thread regarding how much you can squeeze out of a CarreraS 3.8 motor. A CarreraS with 350-360 rwhp would be perfect for the track and much more fun than wondering when the day is coming that my turbo puts me into a wall.

drove a carreraS with pdk the other day on the track. Really liked the power band of the motor and that tranny makes up for the torque. The video above looks like a tiptronic vs a pdk carrera. I think that the manual turbo would have had the edge there. But not by much, the power to weight ratio is very close in both cars. And as a track car for me, I would say the 997 carreraS. But as a powerhouse, the 996tt is so easy to pull power from. It depends on what you want. The power my modded 996tt has is intoxicating. I would not trade it. However, I am truly worried about tracking the car with this much power on street radials.

I had a similar decision a few weeks ago, test drove both a 2005 Turbo Cab with Tiptronic and ended up buying a 2006 997 Cab S.
The TT is obviously incredibly fast, but outside of the track, ie daily driving you have quite a bit of power lack until the rev is above 3500rpm, if you floor it, you have the half second wait until the turbo kicks in. Once you are above 70mpg and cruise at 3500rpm, you have all the power you ever need.
I prefer the more predictable power of the 997S with 355hp, if pressed not as fast, but none of the Turbo issues.
Apart from that, I think the 997 is a lot more refined in terms of roadhandling (I owned a 996S before), much tighter feel overall, finishes on the inside are a lot nicer and I ended up saving almost $10,000 over a comparable TT (plus I still have warranty). Exterior looks are similar if you don't mind the headlights.

Video is impressive if the tt driver and the PDK driver got on it at the same time. Would like to have seen 3-4 attempts but nevertheless very close.
Next question is how well will the PDK transmission handle the daily abuse. I would guess that it is very robust and if there are no substantial issues or reliability problems, this is the "affordable" really fat 911.
