Porsche 997-1 to 997-2 drl / led front light conversion instructions needed. HELP
Hi all, just wondered is there anybody on here that has done the led drl (gen2) front light conversion yet to a 997 gen1.
I have done the rears which was as simple as it gets but i believe the front conversion entails cutting and splicing wires.
i currently have all the parts to retro fit including the control unit, my local OPC will also code in/ activate the new lights for me but i need to know what wires to cut and which wires to join,
please can somebody help, i know im not the first in the world to do this conversion but cant seem to find anybody willing to share their knowledge with me.

Did anyone get back to you? I have 09 bumper on the way. How much were led control units? How did you do tail conversion mod bumper or buy new one? Let me know any details.

( Hi guys just a quick note to say i have finished my front end conversion to gen2 and it looks awsome. as my car is a 4s the front grilles(997 505 563/4 05 9b1) are titanium and this looks really good against basalt black. A mechanic from an OPC converted my loom for me and charged £250 ($410), it took him about 20 minutes to do, when you turn ignition on the front leds come on, then when you turn lights on they dim , however if you want them really bright again just put on the foglight switch. only problems i had were the headlight washer units (997 628 163 01)are different on a gen2 and the mk1's cant be retro fitted, and also the centre duct surround (997 505 541 03 01c) also needs an additional air deflector to deflect the air to your rads, porsche part is called air routing (997 575 141 04 1c), even the dealer didnt know i had to have this, all in all well worth the hassle, car is going in next week for the rears to be done which as you guys know is really straightforward, well at long last its done , see attatched foto.)

Sorry C2SKID, I posted the wrong section, here's more of this thread.

(Hi there, Front bumper from ebay £80, plus £150 to paint, led drl £140 per side new, gen2 mini loom £25 per side new, grilles £25 per side new, headlight washers, £50 per side new, center duct £35 new, rad ducts £60 per side new, plus £200 to programme control unit and have it hacked, reprogramme and hack done by an official porsche centre mechanic, just under £1100 in total,
Rear was £350 per light, turbo bumper modded with top half of a damaged gen2 bumper, bumper £40 ebay, paint & plastic weld £400, reprogramme was in with front lights, didnt need to change rear control unit as my car is a 2007 my so £1140 all in, total cost was £2250 but was well worth it as car looks new, if you go down the route of new bumpers your looking £500 per bumper new, available from porscheshop.com, at the time i did mine the turbo facelift hadnt been released so as i had a turbo bumper already fitted it was cheaper to mod, the guy who did the lights is the only guy in the uk who can do the hack, ive just sold 2 front drls on ebay 2day for £250, there is currently an led rear light listed, as i said well worth it)

I have been reading your post with great interest.
I too have the same car (in the same colour - (Good Choice) as you.
I Have just received the rear control units from Albert Motorsport and am awaiting for my new Gen 2 Rear Bumper and Led lights to arrive (should be monday I hope).
What I would be very interested to hear is how your front end modification goes.
I have heard this is where the difficulties arise in getting the lights to function properly. I intend to do the same modification myself and intended to use the front control unit from Albert Motorsport once I have finished the rear end.
I think you said that you are going to use the same control unit for your front end conversion? If you do could you please let me know how it goes, and if there are any problems, if it is a straight forward plug and play Installation, if you had any problems with fault codes etc, if you had to cut into the original wiring loom, If it all went smooth without any problems.
I would really appreciate any info you can provide, as I am waiting to order my front end parts and need to now if the front wiring is simple. It would be really difficult for me to find a good auto electrician near me ( I recently moved from the UK to rural France and my nearest Porsche opc is a 2.5 hour drive away - and no local independant specialists either ).

does anybody know where the front light module is located. i searched the trunk well and did not see it. do you have to have the bumper off to see it? i have the bumper in for painting so i better get going on some of the stuff. as you can see i need help!!

 

I know this is an old thread, however we now offer a 997.1 to 997.2 front and rear conversion.

This is a seamless install, all you will need is paint. No wiring or programing, the LED daytime running lights and tail lamps will be plug and play with this new harness we are offering.

Are the rear LED tailights the only difference on the rear? Bumper looks very close.

 

The lines around the lights are completely different than the 997.1. That is the major difference, otherwise they are very similar.

 

the bumper on the rear is a simular fit the holes for the tail lights are obviously different. accepting the 997.2 tail lights. the hanger is different, the old one can be modified but probably easier to just buy the 997.2 support. then the most rear hole on the 997.2 bumber is in a different place , just drill it where it is supposed to be and have a flat clip that reaches it or notch the support so the old flatclip will work. that is the entire difference in mounting. you just buy the inserts behind the wheels and the ones around the exhaust. if you use a euro bumper then no new bumperetts are needed.

 

Rear bumper is somewhat different from the gen 1 and I do believe that it is better to buy it. If you examine the pics of both bumpers, you will see that very bottom part between exhaust tips is different and the finish of the gap where the number plate goes is different too other than the headlight finishes.

I am doing my 05 C2S rear and front facelift tomorrow, I will post pics.

One question to Suncoast, why dont you guys have the rear upgrade for the rear with PDC ? Mine is going to be done tomorrow with PDC.
