I taught my wife (then girlfirend) how to drive a 5 speed in college when I had a MKII GTI (god, how I loved that car....)

From that date forward, she refused to buy an automatic. First a Honda Prelude Type SH when she graduated from undergrad, and now a 997.2 6 speed as she is finishing her residency (MD). She drove the PDK--and agreed it was a great transmission--but said she wanted to have "fun" with her car and had to have a 6 speed. It is also the reason she ruled out some cars (M6, SL, etc) as there was not a 6 speed available.

Now I just have to talk her into doing an autocross or a track day....

My daughter took her drivers test at age 16 in my 996. It should be mandatory that all people be able to drive sticks before being allowed to drive an automatic. Mandatory for all in my family.

My wife has driven a manual since she was 18. It's amazing how quickly a teen can learn how to drive stick when the only available car in the family has a clutch! Since we've been married, she's has a string of manuals - an A4, an A6 2.7T, and a 530xi wagon. Now the kids and dogs need a larger vehicle so came the SUV and went the stick.

I agree also. My daughter had to learn to drive a stick, because the car I bought her had a manual transmission. She didn't seem to mind..

Thanks rvhpno80...

Yea she's quite the find!

we share all the toys, so she rides my ducati superbike too! (but never her first choice)... we have a 748R and a suzuki volty (retro bike - her fav)... trying to convince her that she needs a hypermotard but she's eyeing the new monster!
