Removing Tiptronic Shifter Knob

Removing Tiptronic Shifter ****
I want to change the Tiptronic Shifter **** on a 2006 Carrera S. I searched the forum and DIY and did not find a thread. Any help out there? I was told you could simply pull it off. Does not sound correct. Thanks in advance.

Take an allen key (the l-shaped type that you'd get with furnture you buy from Ikea, for example). Stick the short end under the bottom edge of the button on the shifter you use to shift from P-R-N-D and tilt it so the button cover pops off. Once this is done, you'll see an upside down "u" shaped metal pin that you have to either press in or pull out toward you (I can't remember). While doing so, you pull up on the entire shifter, and it pops right off.
Took me forever to figure this out as there is little to no info for tip users. I will also see if I can find a link to another forum that had some helpful images.

I do not know if that't the official procedure, but on my 2007 I removed it according to the attached photos. Nothing broke (so far).
I used a trim removal wedge and carefully pushed out the upper release button. The button is still attached to the **** with a spring. Could be removed too, but it's not necessary.
The **** is fixed to the lever with a clip. Remove that clip and you can pull off the **** from the lever.
Good luck.

Here you go:

You'll see the step referencing the "spring lock" does not have a picture and was the most confusing for me, but you'll see the upside down u-shaped metal pin that you'll push in.

Part number for the metal clip
I took apart my gear **** and lost the metal clip... do you guys know the part number for the metal clip? It’s the part marked as “B” on the attachement. Thanks!!
