If you want stealth get the 9500ci. Unlike some of these others ones being discussed this is a known high performing unit. The very first thing it must do is provide early warning that is reliable. Otherwise why bother.

 

One other thing - no windshield unit protects you from laser. They only inform you as you are being lit up, and that you should pull over to receive your ticket. You need a laser jammer to protect you. Laser Interceptor is best for that but he 9500 does good enough since you need the concealed install.

 

Ain't going to happen. The radar detector emits a signal that radar guns -- and other radar detectors can pick up.

My V1 picks up other detectors. I get a kick out of id'ing a big rig with a radar detector on board and using the CB radio to let the driver know I know...They are surprised. And thankful. IIRC for a big rig driver a radar detector is a big no no.

If you drive in an area where radar detectors are illegal just take the thing down and put it on the floor behind the passenger's seat. Drop and old banket over it.

if you can have a radar detector mount it up high to the left of the mirror and let it help protect you. Most cops don't notice the thing or if they do they don't say anything. The only time I had any trouble was when a state trooper pulled me over and warned me about where I had the thing mounted and told me where it should be mounted and if I refused to move it or take it down he would confiscate it. I took it down until I was out of the state (AZ).

 

Is that signal the detectors put out required by federal law in the US to allow states that outlaw them a way to detect them?
I ask, because a radar detector has absolutely zero reason to be emitting any sort of signal. The detector should be totally passive and shielded to not let any RF noise out from the circuitry.

 

No, this is NOT required by law, it is just the nature of the divice. RDD (Radar Detectors Detectors) are based on picking up emissions that are generated by those receivers (local Oscillator used to generate the base frequencies). As you can imagine, more expensive devices expend more time testing and use higher quality components to minimized these emissions making it less detectable.

K40 with two diffusers under front bumper cover and a rear detector under rear bumper cover - only two LEDs inside car that are not usable unless lit up and a small wireless remote for control

Invisible radar is possible by mounting sensors behind bumper covers, but that does reduce sensitivity a bit. May not be an issue.
Laser detection, however is not possible an be 100% invisible. Laser is light energy that must be seen by the sensor, and for that to happen, an eye could also see the sensor.

You can mount laser sensors in places that make them much less likely to be spotted by anyone not trained in knowing where to look. But that also reduces the effectiveness.

The ideal laser sensor positions would require integration of a new scale:
Integrate sensors inside the headlight units (and put jammer emitters there as well if thats where the user wants to go). And behind the license plates, with a small hole drilled to allow viewing out - and coating the sensor with some material that mimics the license plate look where the hole is to make detection 99% unlikely.

It is doable to a highly unlikely detection rate, but would require great effort and customization to achieve. Just not at 100% undetectable.
