ASK Amp Replacement DIY
My ASK amp broke so I decided to replace it with an aftermarket (Rockford Fosgate 150x2 or soemthing like that) unit. It only cost me 100 bucks and sounds really good. I found some good information online but no DIY so I made one. This is actually an extremely easy mod.
1. There are no fiber optics involved with the ASK amp so don't worry about it.
2. Just pop open the trunk, remove the cover where the tire pump is and the amp will come off if you just pull the clips.
3. I have attached a basic wiring diagram. All you need to do is cut all the wires and then hook up the amplifiers inputs and outputs. You will only be outputing to the speakers labeled Bass in my diagram (the two speakers at the bottom of the door. The center speaker, yellow wire in the diagram, will not receive power (unless you buy a 3 channel amp or something). There is also a remote turn on (red/black wire) as seen in the pic. There is no need to run any other wires all you will do is splice into the stock ones.
4. Basically your new amp will plug into the power and ground wires, the remote wire, the front speaker output wires which will act as the amps inputs (make sure you buy an amp that accepts that), and then the amp will output to the two lower speaker wires).
4. My amp didn't fit with the tire changing parts so I removed it be unscrewing a few torx screws. Now it fits perfectly under the covert and I was able to fit all my parts where the DVD navigation would normally go.
5. That's it.

Hi,
I did this with a Alpine Amp and it worked. One question. What did you do to fix the imaging? I replaced the Side door speakers and tweeters with Focals using the existing mounts connectors and wiring. I seem to have lost most of my mid range.

Bad Amp
Thanks for this write up it was EXACTLY what I needed. I just bought a 2008 Cayman with the SPP and the audio was crap. I ordered new door woofers (both blown) from ebay. Same thing...crap sound. Found this thread and decided to try changing the amp. Went down to Walmart and got the $70 Jensen. Now it sounds like it should...loud and lots of bass.
Just FYI my speakers were both blown in the door so it wasnt obvious that it was the amp until I changed them. I took that ASK amp apart and I would have spent more on the parts to fix it, then I would have just changing it out. Took 30 minutes.

The remote wire connects to the amp remote/on/off signal. It should be marked on the new amp as well. It shuts off the amp when you power off the car.
I decided not to hook up the center speaker because I have the two behind the seats in the pilars which give plenty of mid range sound. Im very happy with the way it sounds however it does take a bit of "tweaking" with the sub and mid range eq.
