I hold up a cardboard (20x14) while I spray it carefully around the top edges
and I use a smaller cardboard near the rear 1/4 panel
I also switched to 303 Convertible top protectant from Raggtop
Raggtop once left a white residue mark (like ash marks) which was pain to rid of.

I'm sure this is overkill, but I mask my entire car off using thin plastic sheeting ( from the HD paint department) and painters tape.
Like many, I use the 303 Aerospace protectant for treating rubber and vinyl. I've heard good things about the fabric protector, maybe I'll give it shot next time I treat my top.

I did the same thing. Black garbage bags and blue painters tape. When I was done I folded the bags back up and put them back in their box. Definitely worth the additional 20 minutes of prep time it took for super easy clean up.

I masked using painters tape all the way along, took about 45 min to do it properly, then I used a piece of cardboard held by one hand placed it at the edge of the painters tape and used my other hand to spray 303 fabric guard at the edges of the hood and worked my way along, then covered the middle.
303 is good, if any gets on the paint or glass it just wipes off. but wipe it off within 1 min.
