Hi! just came aboard, purchase 997.2?

Glad to start up with 6speed!

I have a question about 2009 - 2012 911s. I am thinking of purchasing a 2009 Carrera S and wanted to ask if there are any significant differences in the last three years of this model.

I test drove a 991 GTS with pdk/button car and was very impressed.

I am thinking about the earlier model with a manual a Carrera S with PASM coupe car with 14k miles, 2009.

The purchase would be from another state and I don't have access to the car at this time. I understand a history of the revs for the car is stored in the memory of the car and was wondering if it can be downloaded and emailed to me to get an idea of how the car was treated.

Looks like the regular oil/fluid changes were done as it was a one owner car.

Thanks for your expertise, Bob.

The biggest changes in the 997 lineup came in 09 when the 997.2 was released.

Within the 997.2s, I dont think there were any major changes. There was some talk on the forums about improvements to the engine being made after 2009 to address some issues, but I dont have the details on what exactly was changed.

From what I understand, Porsche will often make improvements from year to year, without necessarily making the details of the changes public knowledge. So as 997dude says, people often recommend getting the newest 911 you can afford.

I think what is more important is to get a good shop to do a PPI, especially if you are buying a car remotely. Find a respected shop or dealership close to the car, and have them do a very thorough PPI. I recently purchased a similar car to the one you are looking at (an 08 911 C4s) and I had the shop check all the regular stuff, plus do a compression test, leakdown test, and borescope the engine. I wanted to be sure that there was no significant cylinder wall scoring. They also checked the overrevs and take a look for any sign of a previous accident or bodywork.

With the car you are looking at, it has pretty low mileage. Sometimes if the car was sitting for extended periods, seals can start to leak.

Another thing I had them check for was any sign of track use.

And of course, all the usual stuff like brakes, tires, test drive, etc.

Good Luck!

The 2009s got left over steering wheels which can have an affect on modifications. This shouldn't be a deal breaker. The biggest key here is if you have PDK and want to upgrade to paddle shifters. Speaking of which, I believe the buttons got replaced with paddles in 2011.

Also, the early HPFPs (high pressure fuel pumps) had some problems. I haven't heard of any residual problems once replaced.

Somewhere in 2011 some models got a third radiator. There is quite a bit of debate as to whether this matters or not.

I'm sure others have more to add.

I have a 2009 C2S that I purchsed CPO in 2012. At the time the car was three years old and had one prior owner. I bought it with 18K miles on the clock and have added another 12K since taking ownership. Other than two annual services being performed by my Indy shop I have zero issues or complaints. Great car, likes to run hard, and more than I need in Atlanta traffic. Oh and regarding the various years within the 997.2 model, a few months ago I was at my local Porsche dealer and talking to the salesman who sold me my P car. I told him that I was getting interested in perhaps moving into a newer model 997.2 S car and he said "why would you, you have the car you want with the mods you want, there is no good reason to upgrade to another 997.2. Unless you want to step into a 991 I wouldn't waste your money." Now I'm not sure if that was sales speak for let me sell you a more expensive P car, but he applied no further pressure or suggestions. In his mind there is not a huge difference between 997.2 model years.

I also bought a 2009 C2S (CPO) a few years ago and have add no issues. 5K miles and one owner. Out of state purchase for me too. Ft Meyers Porsche made the deal pretty easy and comfortable for me. Now 18K.
I also got a 6 speed which are becoming harder to find. May be good for re sale later.
My dealer wouldn t show me the DMW report but stated it was clear. I bought the tool to check it myself and turned out to be clear as stated.

I got a 977.2 S ST last summer with 17k km on it. It now has 43k km. I drive it a lot. Apart for oil changes and tire changes, nothing has gone wrong with this car. That is even with six hard track days. I was told that Zeon lights came standard on 2010 models. Not sure if any other changes in the model years.

Like the other members say, get the newest you can afford.

I have a 2009 C2S that I purchased almost two years ago. The car has been flawless. Almost no difference between an 09 and 11.
