Ignition Ranges - need help with interpretation
Hi - I have a 2010 C4s with 25k miles.
I got a PPI style inspection and got the below report out of autologic from German Auto Specialists, PA.
Range 1 - 404 835.55 h
Range 2, 3,4 ,5 6 - 0
Total operating hours is 863.2
Is the above normal?
Thank you in advance.
Ravi

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Range 1 is hitting the rev limiter while the others are "money shifts." So it's good that you show zero, there! And Range 1 are harmless.
I am guessing that's a PDK with that clean overrun record, am I right?

There is no "normal". As others have said, this is a good report - it has been driven very sedately especially for a 6 speed.

This car was driven softly all the time. The previous owner(s) drove it cautiously, never pushing it towards the redline. You have zero counts in range 2 which is on the rare side to see for 6-speed manual. And the 404 super low counts in range 1 happened 30 hours ago, likely one bump against the redline it's entire life, perhaps by someone test driving it?
I thought Porsche can CPO a car with range 1 & 2, but will hesitate on range 3 and deny range 4 and above.

Yep, all of the opinions above are from the strong players in this forum so this is clearly a good over-rev report for a 7-speed (not a 6 BTW). Note that the average speed of the car over its life is 29MPH (25k/863), in a range typically seen on a car used for frequent drives around town with a lot of stop lights and traffic. Weekend drivers taken out only for harder runs in the countryside usually will have a higher MPH average. There may be a valid argument that our cars are kept healthier with a little more vigorous driving life, but on the flip side it seems to have been driven regularly which is a plus. If everything else about the PPI-style report looks good then I think you have a very nice one!

From personal experience with a duranertic and hitting the rev limiter hard on numerous occasions: Range 1, 2, 3 are from hitting rev limiter, while 4, 5, 6 are money shifts.

Unless you're counting reverse a 2010 is a 6 speed.
