Looking to purchase 997 in the near future. Any advice?

Hey guys, new to the site. As the title states I'm looking to purchase a 997 Carrera 2/4s in the near future, and I'm wondering if there's any advice specific to these cars?

I am quite mechanically inclined, I've rebuilt piston and rotary engines, do all my own maintenance on my current vehicles. Is this something that can still be done on these cars? Oil changes and that kind of thing?

Any help/info from real owners is appreciated guys!

Get an S, buy the nicest one you can afford. You can still do your own maintenance but research parts costs and budget accordingly. I've had my C2S for 2 years now; got it at 40k miles. Maintenance has included oil changes, tie rod ends, and tires. Replaced the starter and harness (common weak point), and did the IMS bearing upgrade the first month I got it for cheap insurance against engine failure. Couple annoying rattles here n' there depending on the temperature outside and now my valve cover gasket is leaking (which I believe necessitates engine removal to repair) but otherwise the car has been excellent! Friend of mine bought the same car with 90k miles and I think other than a clutch he hasn't had any issues, either.

Definitely get an S if possible. Full leather, BOSE, Dynamic Sports Seats & Chrono pkg are nice options to have, 2005's are a great choice & also have the older IMS which can be upgraded easily if your worried about it. (mine is a 2005 but ended up having the bigger 2006 IMS as its a late production)

Maintenance isn't that bad at all, these cars are solid. Dont let mileage worry you, these cars were made to be driven, i have 77k on mine now and bought with 40 2 years ago & all i've had to do was regular maintenance + clutch this year.

Be ready to be ADDICTED & not beable to settle for any other car!

+3 on choosing an S. Not just for the power but the brakes and the great red calipers as well. I have a 997.2 6MT but have that heard that the Tiptronic on 997.1 is less desirable to drive, PDK is fine if budget allows a 997.2. Very reliable cars, you'll love it! Take your time and familiarize yourself with the options you want. Be sure to get a DME if it's a manual.

3.8 liter engine makes it worth while to get the S. The sport package also stiffness the shocks up a bit for a more aggressive ride when you want it.
