ZR-1 vs ACR

Anyone seen a same day test yet? This has to be the biggest rivalry ever and I have yet to see anything at all. Seems someone would have jumped on this as it would sell a ton of magazines. If there hasn't been one, there has to be something up.

I think all the GTR madness drew the attention from this test. Regardless of the design, the ZR-1 doesn't have the tire to compete with the ACR. I have had both the PS2 and the cup tre on my car. There are in two different leagues. Both cars have such high limits that the drivers ability will be the determining factor.

The ACR is a better track car. Better aero and better tires.

The ZR1 is a street car. It can hold its own on the track but it is not a track car.

A Z06 with some aero and suspension work is a track car.

That still doesn't explain why there is no test. GT-R or not, they've both beat it down and are the fastest cars readily available to the US media, there is NO legit reason whatsoever this test hasn't been conducted. Especially when some mags had already said to expect it. I think GM won't allow the ZR-1 to be tested along side the ACR as they've been known not to allow cars in certain tests on occasion. Of course it could also be that Dodge is selling the Viper and have no interest in supplying media cars. But either way, something is amiss.

And the PS2's on the ZR-1 is not your normal PS2, it's a tweener R comp and is much stickier than a normal PS2. The ACR is much faster regardless due to aero. Maybe GM will come out with a hardcore aero Corvette, it would be a beast.

I heard a rumor that GM had a ZR1 at last years Car and Driver Lightening Lap [but chose not to run it] event where the ACR and Mosler decimated the field that included the Scuderia and GTR.

They may be stickier than the normal PS2, but the normal PS2 is a 200 treadwear rating tire. the sport cups are less than 100.Sport cups are stickier than the Toyo R888s I run. I think the ZR-1 would be able to hang if it had the cup tire. Even without the aero.

200 treadwear is a determination of the manufacturer, it doesn't actually mean much. There are lots of 180 treadwear tires out now that are almost as fast as R-comps. The normal PS2's are a bit off an R-comp, but these new hybrid tires are fast! The GT-R's dunlops are actually faster than R888's on the GT-R. No ones tested the ZR-1's tires back to back with the MPSC but with only 2-3 seconds cushion on a normal 2-3 mile course to a regular PS2 there isn't that much time to be gained. The ACR still has the advantage IF it's gearing doesnt suck for the particular track which seems to be a common theme.

Personally driven both.... ACR not mine but first impression.. bare bone! Europeans thought corvettes have poor interiors, I think they meant the ACR. Car is fast though. The zr1 is just soooo easy to drive. The ride is far more supple and like a grand tourer when in comfort mode. The power is addictive! 3ZR package is well worth it. The car does remind me of a DBS with more power. Granted its not as refined with regards to its interior, but then again, I saved 125K over the DBS. And the ZR1 is a far better car. ACRs are strictly track cars.... like an elise on steroids, not a gt like the zr1. The vette is far more comfortable ride to the track and capable of beating most cars on track. While the acr needs to be trailered in to save your back from a herniated disc. Just my .02.

Apples and oranges if you ask me. As mentioned before, the ACR is a track day car, the ZR1 is a road car with all the amenities.

I agree with Heavy on this one...there were alot of promises in the recent past by the media to match these two(and a few others) head to head, and suddenly, nothing.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm finding that I'm buying about 1/10 of the car magazines I used to. I know that many of them are in bad shape because of the economy/advertising dollars are slim, but if I see another hybrid/Prius/Subaru/minivan/eco/gas-sippers test I'm going to projectile vomite. Profusely.

Well if there is a special ZR-1 only compound for PS-2s that is closer to a R compound tire then great. I dropped almost 3 sec (at buttonwillow) by switching to the cup tire from the PS2 and that's running the 19/265 back tire.

You are right with the GT-R. They come with a really agressive tire and brake pad. I heard that you have the option between a street or track alignment when purchasing a GT-R. iasked in hte GT-R section, but got no confirmation.

Frankly regardless of which car you get you better know he track you are on and how to drive, because the performance envelope for these cars are so high now that the driver is really what matters most.

Apples to Oranges? That's a bit over the top. They are both two door american muscle sport coupes with big motors. The ZR-1 still has a better weight/power ratio and better gearing as well. The ACR has AC and anything you need to drive it on the street.

Viper vs Corvette has been THE major attraction since the Viper came on the scene in the early 90's and is one of the keystones of American performance vehicle comparisons.

Seems some of the Corvette guys don't want to see that inevitable spanking the ZR-1 would take. Everyone else has gotten their beat down, time the ZR-1 got some too. They can put a scud, GT2, LP-560 and V-spec out there too so it lightens the blow a little.

I did see a test of the ZR-1 vs the Z06 and C6 and the ZR-1 beat the Z06 by 2 seconds, we know the ACR has beaten the Z06 by MANY MANY more seconds than that on most every occasion so it kind of goes without saying what's going to happen.

I definately do not think it's apple to oranges. They are the only two serious sports cars from the big three. The ZR-1 might have Luxuary items, but it primary goal is to go fast.

The ACR is a sport racer, but the ZR-1 will out brake and out accelerate the ACR. The ACR will crush the ZR-1 on a track.

If I had my choice i would have the ZR-1. I would drive it to work every day on Hoosier R6s, sit comfortably in my LG motorsports seat with five point harnesses, and sport the huge LG or MTI wing. Might be ricer, but it's fast.

The difference is the "luxury" items. And its big! I mean the car locks itself once you walk away, its got bluetooth, heated seats, sat/nav. Bose surround stereo and CARPET in the trunk too!
