the camaro will have more power stock, and more power mod for mod. but it will also be 200lbs heavier a true 2 tons vs 3850 for the current gt500(without mach 100 stereo).
2011 gt500: will it have an al block? that will take off 50-100lbs
11 z28 blown 6.2 at 4050lbs vs 11 gt500 blown 5.4 at 3750lbs????
The Mach stereo weighs 70lbs? Ford lists it at 3920. I would guess there isnt' a bone stock GT500 that weighs less than 3900lbs with enough gas to make it off the scale.
The Camaro will probably end up weighing about the same.

should be a very tight race! some might say a drivers race. cant wait!
GT500 has the solid-axle, the Camaro the IRS. I'm going to guess the Z/28 will have a very well tuned suspension...
I wrote an article the CTS coupe s/b axed and the Z/28 made.

I had my GT500 coupe weighed yesterday at Steeda. I have all options including the heavy Shaker 1000 stereo. All fluids are full including full (16 gallon) fuel tank.
Here are the numbers:
LF 1083
RF 1124
LR 852
RR 851
Grand total: 3910

Not really,
Ford listed a curb weight of 3850 for the "base" Gt500 and 3920 curb for the loaded one.
These numbers look pretty close

According to SVT the 3920lbs that is quoted is a car fully wet and with the Mach 1000. According to SVT the Mach 1000 is 70lbs heavier than the Mach 500 due to the subwoofer enclosures and the extra amplicfication. If you remember Ford quoted the GT500 to be in the 3850 range initially, and that the Mach 1000 would not be available as the car was porky the pig to begin with.
the gt500 and the ss weigh the same. do you think the z28 with blower/intercooler will not add any weight? maybe the same amount of weight the mach 1000 stereo adds to the mustang?
either way it will be interesting when ford swaps to the al block.
since your in the bay area have you had a chance to drive the griggs mustang? i hear they turn decent for a live axle car.
Great data, thanks. I'm surprised Ford quotes with a full tank. No chance to drive a Griggs car yet but a friend from the gym races a Mustang in the NASA sedan class with a Griggs set-up and likes it a lot.
The Camaro will definitely heavier, than the current SS yet lighter than the CTS-V. The V seems to run identical times as the GT500, I'll guess the Camaro will be faster/quicker.

no doubt the camaro will be fast(11.7 close to 120 stock tires, good driver prepped track is my prediction), but i think it will be slower than people believe. no the gt500 is not that fast yet, hopefully it loses a full 100lbs in 2011.
try to make it out for a griggs track day someday at infineon. they are pulling peak g of 1.5+. motor trend pulled a peak g of 1.55 out of the zr1. its amazing the live axle mustang even competes with that!
Gotta admit i'm not a huge fan of the new GT500, I perfer my body style verses the new one hands down. However given the comparison I would stick with the new GT500 vs. the Camaro. Considering how the current GT500 engine seems to be the US 2JZ with it's near unbreakable block. How the aluminum block will fair is a whole different question though.
Most chevy dealers are charging 7-10K over invoice in the south, just crazy that some pay it
Well loaded they are $40k+... sticker. Rediculous, when Vettes on the lot are being given away at great discounts.
