Considering all they did to the engine, the horsepower isn't really much better. Looking at the graph, it really isn't a huge difference. The torque improvement is better, but not huge. But the new car is definitely much faster by the testing in the mags, so I'm thinking a lot of the difference comes from changes to the drivetrain...especially the clutch/flywheel, driveshaft, and lighter wheels.

On the wheels, I was pretty shocked when I found out how heavy the 19s are...rear wheels are 32 lbs each, tires are 32 lbs, for a total of 64 lbs, which is huge. I don't know exact numbers on the fronts, but stock front tires are 26 lbs so and I'd guess around 30 lbs for the wheels, for a total of 56 lbs.

In comparison, the 19" stock E92 M3 wheels weigh 47 lbs for front wheel+tire, 51 for rear wheel+tire! That means the stock M3 has 44 lbs less rotating mass in the wheels. If you believe the old addage, losing that much rotating mass would be like dropping 440 lbs off the car, or adding 44 hp.

The current sport package rear wheels are 26 lbs, so that saves 6 lbs at each rear corner, but still leaves a lot of room for improvement. I'm going with a set of aftermarket wheels that should save me 9 lbs for rears and 10 lbs for fronts, plus lighter tires, for a grand total of 44 lbs, not to mention more rubber on the ground.

Anyone know the specs on the V12V wheels?

They are forged wheels, 19x9 front and 19x11 rear, and I believe the whole set with tires weighs about 5 kilos (11 lbs) less than the stock wheels on the V8.

Is the gearing the same for the '09s?

So the V12 wheels are heavier than the "lightweight" wheels for the V8? I guess they are wider.
