Resurrecting an old thread. I bought a new AM key set (crystal + plastic) with the codes and took it to my local dealer for programming. They said the plastic key works perfect (start and unlock), but that the crystal key will start but not lock/unlock. Any advice before I pick the car up?

I have the opposite issue... perhaps someone here can help me fix it... I swapped my valet fob shell internals for a new one, and it unlocks and locks the car just fine but won't start it! says Key error on the screen

I only have one other glass key so i can't do the thing with the 3 keys like earlier in this thread... any ideas? Irish07?

I have a feeling its a simple fix, I just have no clue what to do and I searched forever on how to fix it to no avail

sonnies, in the back cover of your valet fob it has a little black chip that is needed to start the car. What I did is use the old back cover on the new valet fob and everything worked fine.

Yep, that's it..

Thats the key chip to tell the immobilizer all is good and allows the engine management to start the engine.

If you have the old key still together, I have an even easier way that's a Ford creation. Start the engine with your 2 old keys(don't keep it running , long..1 second max), after which start the engine with this new key you made. It'll start and self calibrate the new 3rd key to work. Only way this is possible is by starting the engine with 2 keys that are already programmed..this will not work if you only have 1 programmed key.

My solution to the overpriced AM pouch was to go to a local sporting goods store and purchase a $12 leather Swiss Army Knife pouch. It looks much like the AM pouch, has a snap cover, and works perfectly to protect my ECU. It even comes with a belt clip that I use to attach my house key.

So wtf... now I can't open the doors anymore with this fob but it will start the engine... the heck is going on with this? Dead (new fob) battery or do I have to sync it up again somehow? Like I said before, it was working fine unlocking/locking the doors and now, nothing

It must be the battery inside the FOB...

Hello,

Just want to confirm that if I need to swap the internals of a used crystal key or plastic key with missing codes that I purchased for my 2009 DB9 the correct Volvo part number is 30772198? Also, is there a better place to buy them aside from eBay? Thanks!

Took my 14 DB9 to the dealer last week as the plastic key would not work at all. They were able to program the key to start the car but told me it would not lock/unlock the doors. Wanted to sell me a new key for $1100.00. I passed at this time. Anything I can do to get a better price or without the dealer??
