Si I was crusing home last night and I get to the light and a M6 Covertible is at the light. Nice car nice set-up,, wheels, lowered, good looking ride. So he starts reveing his engine and the light goes green, so I said what the hell lets see what we can do. I know he has at least 80 more HP than me so I wasn't hoping for a miracle but I figured it would be a close race. We went up to 120 and he had me by 4 car lengths.
I tried to get closer but he had to much power. It was a blast!!
He is what I came away with.
1. I wish I had my 996Turbo with me!!!!!!! lol
2. I love the handleing and performance of this car so much, but I wish it had more power.
3. Can't wait for the V10
Even tho it is slower than my other cars I still would never have seconds thoughts about this car. It is truly an amazing and fun machine to drive.

The mighty V10 is no challenge for a 4.2 FSI dispersing its power on all 4 corners. You will have him at the start to about a 1/2 car length till you reach 50 (thanks to a better grip at the start, though with Launch Control on the M6 that advantage may be minimal). After that your Quattro becomes a speed killer, and the V10 just begins to perculate. The V-10 is no match at high speeds (or from 6K RPM and above), those cars just go into another planet!
The R8 has launch control with the R-tronic transmission. I do not know how it compares to the M6, but it beats a Z06 Corvette off the line for about 30 feet. I could not find the you tube video, but here is a launch controlled R8.

I agree. It's a beautiful car with great gearbox and brakes. I am a bit disappointed with its performance. It could have been more powerful..Little low on torque..runs out of gears quickly..but definitely a head turner.
No offense to M6 owners but in my area, Philly, every Joey baga Donuts has an M6 or 6series. R8 regardless of power!! Stay proud my friend
Heard that!

The R8 wins on looks hands down, against the M6 and against most other high end coupes.
BTW, Autoweek have an R8 in their Long Term Fleet, latest update was a bit on the downside: reviewer felt power is insuffficient (addressed now by the V10), and the R8 handled and felt closer to an Aston Martin than a true exotic (I suppose that means too refined). His words (Morrison), not mine...
