The S4 already has a tune that gives it 100HP+. Imagine what the gain would be with new pulleys.

It's going to be a tuning monster, and actually has an LSD unlike the open diff that 335i has.

This doesn't make sense unless this is a turbo. What S4 can be tuned to get an extra 100hp when it is either a V8 or SCV6? The supercharged V6 will need a new pulley/tune to get more hp. There is no way to just "tune" it and give it more boost when it runs off the crank.

Please explain......

I don't know what the M-Cantronic system is, but it tunes the new S4 to 430hp (316kW) and 515Nm of torque. Amazing tuning capability for this new engine.

Wow, that is interesting. I would like to know how the hell that works. Something doesn't add up honestly. Superchargers and Turbos work very similar. The idea is to push a compressor of some sort with lots of air and get more dense, higher pressure air at the end of the compressor. Most compressors are centrifugal or roots type. The supercharger turns the compressor by using the serpentine belt on a car engine. So you are limited to turning the compressor by the amount of engine rpms. A turbo on the other hand can spin as much as you want because it runs on exhaust gasses. That is why I don't understand how they achieve this without swapping pulleys. If you swap the pulley to a smaller size diameter you can spin the compressor more often and at a faster rate.

Superchargers also have an intake bypass similar to how a wastegate works on the exhaust side of the turbo, except instead of being vacuum-actuated it is electronically actuated. In most applications there isn't really power to be gained here because the supercharger is already operating at full capacity and the bypass is just there to prevent boosting when the car is cold or when the car is cruising with no load (so that you aren't sitting in boost when you are on the freeway). In theory what is likely to be the case in the S4 is the factory ECU tune is using the bypass valve as a boost limiter, and the MTM map removes this limit.

The S4 uses an Eaton TVS (twin-vortice) supercharger system which is pretty state of the art, so I'm not surprised that they can squeeze more boost out of it than what made sense to market for the S4. Whether the rest of the components can handle the extra heat/pressure in the long run has yet to be seen.

they seem to be around at a bunch of dealers now, and some are getting discounts out of the gate ($1500-2500)...msrp of a well equipped car looks to be about $57k. looks sweet to me.

Coming from the 335 tuner scene I am seriously looking at my first potential Audi. ABT and MTM (coming to the states) tunes are out and GIAC will be on the door step soon.

And it has leather that doesn't look and feel like a work boot!

Gas mileage is more important to me because stopping for gas every 3 or 4 days is a PITA. I drive 40 miles round trip to work Monday through Friday and 40-50 miles round trip every sunday for my softball league. So I bought a 09 Jetta 2.0T that has 260hp and 300tq on 93 with APR Software and still gets 35mpg highway and 25-30 city. And for my self I got the 4 door GTI 2007 2.0T with APR's Stage 3 turbo I have almost 400hp on 93 and I still get 30+ mpg highway and both cars together spent just under 50k. Both cars have leather, sunroofs, heated seats and nav. They don't have the slick looks of the S4 or the 335 but its faster and more fuel efficient and much much cheaper The setup I have on the GTI can also be had on the A4 2.0T

I can't wait to test drive one and see if its any faster then what I have. I've been getting countless mailers and flyers about the new S4.

I went to test drive one at the dealer last week and they weren't in yet. Can't wait to see what the tuners pull out of the stock supercharger with a new pulley and everything else!

Isn't the S4 intended to compete with BMW's M3?

to my mind it's sort of in between the 335 and the m3...the m3 will be faster and likely better handling and has a v8, but it's also going to be about $10k more expensive similarly equipped. the 335i will be about as fast but generally doesn't (imo) seem as nice as the s4, but will be a bit cheaper similarly equipped..that's my take anyway.
