Anybody else getting impatient with forced-induction options for the S5?
The $30k MTM kit doesn't exist as far as I'm concerned (no evidence, anywhere), so as far as I'm concerned not only is it rediculously priced, it's also vaporware.
Am I the only one who is getting impatient waiting for a reasonable supercharger kit to come out? The new 3.0T is making all kinds of auto enthusiast headlines and our 4.2FSI has so far gotten nihil for serious mods.

I've been hoping for VF Engineering to come out with a blower for the S5, they said their other projects were a higher priority though. Possible development starting early 2010. I had also been waiting on EvoMS to come out with their intake kit for the S5, kept saying it was going to be ready soon and that it was in production. I ended up just getting a BMC filter and calling it a day. Their intake for the Cayenne Turbo is pretty awesome though.

Yeah I went K&N for same reason, got impatient. I think it's weird that since the S5 was released, the only real solid complaint everyone has is that they wish it had more power, yet nobody sees this as a good market, so it ends up being low priority. For example PES actually owns an S5, but they did the R8 and are doing the RS4 after with the S5 having an unknown development schedule.
I can see the S5 supercharger also being marketed at Q7 owners who want extra towing capacity.

I think it's taking a back seat until everyone knows for sure whether all the future S5's will be supercharged V6's or continue with the 4.2 V8's. Also, with the cabriolets the customer base is split between 2 different engines already. Once Audi decides whether or not they're keeping the V8 or dropping it...the aftermarket might open up.

If a future S5 3.0T coupe means a closed door for the 4.2FSI aftermarket, I guess I'll look into getting a different car at that point. I mean, the power thing really is a big achilles heel on this car. It's brilliant in every other way, but the lack of power is really apparent, especially in medium-speed daily driving situations when you can't wring out the higher RPMs.

Look to VF for a GIAC software powered supercharger for the S5. I know GIAC had one on their dyno. Whether it's a one off or if it will actually be marketed is too hard to say at this point. They have something like 10 Beta B6/B7 S4's running around but still no official release.
Was visitng PES Tuning the other day and they are in the process of developing their SC Kit for the RS4 that WON'T require you to cut a hole in the hood of your Audi.
Once this project is completed it will allow them to use similar tooling for all of the remaining FSI 4.2L V8 Engines, including the S5.
Give Tony or Patric a call at (267) 597-3838 and they will elaborate more on what is in the pipeline.
Recieved European Car magazine (feb 2010) today with ABT S5 superchared AS5R.
Lysholm twin-screw supercharger
8.5 psi of boost
503 hp @ 6800 rpm
457 lb-ft torque
0-60 4.3 seconds
Dealers in FL & CA-- I am trying to find a price
Interesting article... There may be hope under the 39k MTM wants.
For what its worth, the VF S4 kits with the same motor as S5 are putting out 496hp and 434Lbs Tq on 91 octane at only 5psi of boost, thanks in large part to the very cleanly tuned GIAC software. Seems to me that if those numbers from ABT are correct, thats quite a bit of boost for esentially the same HP. I think in Europe the fuel octane is still higher than our 93 as well? The VF kits running on 93 are making in the 505HP range.
I think you'll see the S5 done by VF if the interest is there. There are not a huge number of S5's and a good number of those are Tip cars as well where it is hard to say will the tip handle the larger HP targets over the long haul.

Yeah the results look great. It's too bad the S5 has entirely different cylinder heads than the B7 S4. 4.2FSI (S5, Q7) have 4 valves per cylinder (32 total) and direct injection. There would be zero intake manifold compatibility between the two, which makes up the majority of fabricating a supercharger kit, so we get to wait until they can justify developing for the platform.

It's true about the total number of cars out, and a small minority of those owners being willing to supercharge the car. Regarding the transmission, I realize the forums are a skewed enthusiast percentage of S5 owners, but in A5OC (international A5/S5 forum) something like 90% are 6MT, and out of all of the meets/shows I've been to, I've seen at least 2 dozen S5's they've all been 6MT.

I so agree with you all. It stinks. I wish they would develope a kit for the S5. Kind of the reason I'm looking at selling the car since I wish it had more.
I just don't think the market is there (like you all have said) to make it worth a company to develop the kit and then get return on it.... bummer
PES is in the final stages of tuning for their RS4 Supercharger Kit, which means that they S5 is right around the corner. I know that Tony & Patrick already have quite a few S5's lined up so give them a call for the latest update (267) 597-3838.
