isn't it sad that they have to now compete against the 335 instead of the m3? I mean come on the 335 is about equal or better than the s4. When before the s4 was a direct competitor to the m3.
Dont get me wrong the s4 is a great car - but bmw is doing a better job in the performance sedan and coupe.
Actually, its not sad. BMW moved all of their cars upmarket, from a global perspective. M3 was brought from 333hp to 414hp so that its up to snuff against the RS4. To avoid a gap in the line up they moved the 335 (aka 330) up to compete with the S4.
Whats actually sad is how people have nothing better in their life to worry about than defending the car make they happen to drive on an online forum... you don't own bmw, its not your craftsmanship or planning that is responsible for the car, what do you care if it gets beaten by something else? Stop taking it personally.
Sometimes the audi is better, sometimes the bimmer is...and sometime, albeit rarely, the benz is better... drive what YOU prefer to spend your hard earned money on and not the mag-champ in some pissing contest.
audi has really stepped up their game in the past 6 years or so...

wow - i guess people are very Audi defensive here. My mistake for expressing my OPINION. Both Audi and BMW are great cars. All i am saying is that they should still compare the s4 against the M3 since they are both targeting the same market. Have a nice day all.
^^^I hear yah bro, if audi can make the S4 this good it hurts to know they won't top it with an RS4. I hate when manufacturers hold back on the public, audi with this and bmw with the M5CSL concept...MEN DON'T LIKE TEASES!!!!! LOL...
I don't feel the need to defend. I drive a V8 S4. I am trying to convince my stepfather to get a BMW.
I also drive a Chevy a 50 Buick ride a Honda and a Yamaha. Previously owned Ford Mitsubishi Acura Suzuki. I have been part of forums for many of the vehicles i owned, and many times Ford woluld be put against Chevy Honda against Yamaha etc etc etc.
Fact is Car manufacturers compete. Personally I would like to own one of each

The guy who makes the last car usually wins...until the other guy improves his previous version. To me the S4 sits in between a 335 and an M3. This version of the S4 seems to be a little better than a 335 but no where near an M3.

How do you think the S4 fares against the V8 S5 ?
The 3.0supercharged v6 puts just a tad less power and torque than the v8 in the s5, though the v8 is now being downgraded to the sueprcharged 6 also. The difference is barely noticeable but the sound from the v8 is incredible

Actually the current S4 and S5 coupe/(soon to come sportsback) compete with 335 sedan/coupe, while RS4 and the upcoming RS5 competes with the M3 and M3 CSL (rumoured).
It is very true for the M3 that it has moved upmarket. The S4 and the E46M3 were def class competitors but no longer. The current M3 is more class competitor with the RS4
