How bout telling them "your lowest price"? Generally speaking...don't we all aim a little high when we put something up for sale...especially a car? It's a negotiation. Asking your lowest price is the buyer simply starting the negotiation process. Doesn't seem to me like a question you should find frustrating or annoying!
My take on it is relevant when dealing with a car. Most people look to find out what KBB value is on a car. They might check NADA and also the local market prices to find out what a car is normally worth. A lot of people also rate their car higher on a scale of 1 to 10 than others. One person's rock chip may be insignificant however to another it might be. One person's view of immaculate may be anothers dirty car and unkept.
Thus with this being said, when someone asks you what your lowest price is, means that they are thinking that you are valuing your car too high. One shouldn't be upset when they are posed a question like this. If one hears this consistently and the car has not sold they should look at their price, and do more research to see if their price is in line.
Quite honestly a lot of people price their cars out like they are sitting on a dealers lot. Fortunately even on a dealers lot there is wiggle room and added security than buying from a private individual, let alone the tax savings if they have a car they either have to sell or want to trade in.
First thing I'll usually say is "What did you have in mind?" to see if I can get a number out of them.
If they really want to know how low I'll go and will not reply to me with a number of their own I usually throw out a number below asking... but it's never my lowest number. Why reveal all of my cards on the first round of betting?

I usually reply: “I think my asking price is very fair. However, feel free to make a reasonable offer and I'll consider it.” The absolute bottom price is what you feel comfortable selling your item for.
aintME is right! That's how you do it.
"He who quotes the first dollar amount.....LOOSES".
Don't make the first offer to lower the price, don't let a salesman strong arm you into making the offer if you're buying. Be a winner! Make them go first or WALK AWAY.

I love it when the seller says "I have someone who is putting a deposit/has a deposit on my car, but I am still taking offers"
Of all the cars I was looking at this year, there was a roaming person always interested in the same car at the same moment. When I walked away and didnt call back after the sellers tactic of pressure from the make believe person, they always called back and wanted me to make an offer.
