I've been kicking around the idea of buying a 6 speed 996TT. The reason is that I want to have much more HP and I'm pretty sure I'm near the tip tranny's limit. Now, I'm not looking for Tip bashers (Sean), but I am looking for anyone who may want to trade their modded 6 speed for my modded tip. I'm sure some one knows someone who isn't on this forum that may be in the market for an extremely fast car (automatic).
Another question: Should I keep it modded or go back to stock and try to sell on Ebay? Or should I keep it because I can crush most cars at the track and on the street?
This isn't and won't be my DD.
Thanks,
Todd

Todd if you like the drag racing and punch of go technique then honestly the Tip. is the easiest way especially since yours is already built. A good clutch for a 6speed for a HIGH HP setup is very expensive, in the tune of the mid-high $6000 range. There are companies that try to push triple disk, but if you want the best of the best that won't give out then you'll spend the big bucks.
I've had both automatic cars as well as 5/6speed cars. Personally I enjoy grabbing gears, but sometimes I hate it. When it comes to drag racing I'd rather have a automatic any day of the week. A good converter car will kill a 6speed car any day. I wish they had like a transbrake setup for these transmissions for the all out race applications. You could REALLY do some NASTY launches with that. It is basically like dumping the clutch at whatever your Converter will let it rev to.
If you are going to sell it, I'd try selling it modded first. Then if no bites I'd convert back to stock and sell her. Depending on what you are going to do to your next ride will tell how much you are going to lose on your current mods if you take them off.
I agree a tip car will beat all but the most expert 6-speed drivers. In my opinion, its just not possible to shift the manual cars fast enough, at least without abusing the clutch/tranny a bit. My shift from 1st to second is where I think I lose a bunch of time.
For example, with my cheapo g-tech, its hard for me to beat a 4.7 sec. 0-60 without abusing the car a bit. I'm fairly sure a tip would crush that time just by stomping the loud pedal.
I've always been curious how a tip turbo (modded or stock) would feel. Good luck with the sale. Scott.

Todd,
I should be glad that I’m not in Houston or Mid-West, and hanging out with those big power guys. Power is sooo addicting and “peer pressure” does play a big role.
As another Tippy, if I’m going to do it all over again, I would get a stock 6-speed. My initial mod would be an internal built, so I won’t be worried about what I can or what I cannot put on my car in the future. I believe this bottom up approach will be much cheaper in the long run if I want to see xxxx hp.

Must......not....post......aaaarggghh can't help myself.
Go back in time, right before the first 18 wheel was installed (was that about a year or so ago?) and listen to the advice of that mean red faced old Bastid Dr_jitsu: "Young grasshopper....I have been around a while...eventually you are going to want a 6 speed and obscene amounts of power"

On a more serious note, I think what it comes down to, Todd , is money. You are going to take a huge hit financially. However, if your businessmen is doing well and you and the family are financially set I would say go for it, you only live once and you are obviously a major enthusiast who gets great pleasure from his cars.
One day you will be old but no one will ever take away the things you have done in your car (pretty much set records for a tippy).

Sell it like it is and buy a 997 Tip. (I hear better tranny and that 3rd pedal will just be too confusing)...

Sage advice from the old man. Just hate it when the good Dr is right.

So far so good guys. I'm liking the honesty. I'm looking for a change I guess. Is a 6 speed the change I'm looking for? If it were the pdk, it would be different. It might be able to handle 6 speed power levels.

most of your mods can go onto a 6speed car so you could swap to stock and pickup a 6speed n then install all the parts again.
i made the choice to buy into this Niche Sports car market because i feel life is short live while u can and enjoy what u can. this is a hard one if the car had paddles like the 2010 i wouldn't trade it in. I like the 6speed but at times its annoying in traffic and sloping drives.
*shrug* if u want a change do it but its not the cheaper option. and you could infact be slower due to shifts
