Tim/tjj7ff thank you, mileage is higher than I'd like, hoping to keep her for a long time.
Again, appreciate the advice. Expanded search to within driving distance, which for me means ~ 500 miles from Northern VA/Washington DC.
Mkhan - Congrats, and thanks for adding salt to that fresh wound. Drive home must have been great. How'd everything work out with the car, seemed like a solid owner a great deal.

Sorry bud! Car is fantastic. Drove down to tx with no problems. Same story, Psm n abs came on. Cleaned out the maf n lights went away. Spoiler wasn't working, I replaced the rams and microswitches. Car is solid. Threw a sachs 2.5 in it. The previous owner drove it like a baby.

In regards to 996 turbos there are def. Some nice ones out there but pricing is literally all over the map. Found some gems but they are autos...

Saw this one locally. Looks like a nice car and low mileage. Not the color I am looking for though. http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inventorylisting/viewDetailsFilterViewInventoryListing.action?sourc eContext=carGurusHomePage_false_0&newSearchFromOve rviewPage=true&inventorySearchWidgetType=AUTO&enti tySelectingHelper.selectedEntity=c3392&entitySelec tingHelper.selectedEntity2=c3385&zip=90254&distanc e=MILES_50&searchChanged=true&trimNames=Turbo+AWD& trimNames=Carrera+Turbo&trimNames=Turbo&trimNames= Turbo+AWD&trimNames=Carrera+Turbo&trimNames=Turbo& modelChanged=false&filtersModified=true#listing=10 9189516

low mileage in NJ - yellow
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...m=391203520687
higher mileage, also yellow in Texas- under budget, but could use that "extra" money towards changing back to normal
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...m=151734614319
Black, in texas
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...m=261970083738
grey, texas
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...m=261972513512
low miles silver in Washington
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...m=221828899887
there are others, and $40k doesn't sound too out of reach

Community and info here has been great, greatly appreciate everyone's help. Have a PPI scheduled next week, will post results and hopefully the pros here can steer me in the right direction.
DougM - did not bite on that midwest car, appeared to be a great example, at least based on info/pics that were available.
Wasserkühlung - link didn't work, but thank you.
VTGT - have not purchased yet.
Stilov - fb page for 6speedonline marketplace? can't remember the last time i was on fb.
JoeT - not considering autos and not a fan of dealerships. guess beggars can be choosers sometimes, will just end up like me and not have what they want. may end up expanding the search to include dealerships, but not at this time. Higher mileage yellow is mostly pretty clean, but I want to stay away from modded cars. Think the grey car in texas was actually purchased from northern VA, how funny would that be if I purchased it and drove it right back here. 40k definitely seems reasonable for cars that sales prices not asking prices, just need to be patient.

Been looking at this thread for a lil now. Just joined up. I originally spoke with that seller in Arlington va too but I didn't jump on it and by the time Friday came it was gone. Oh well. I looked at the 2003 for sale at Porsche Rockville. Super clean just too much.
Have you seen the 2004 down at ft. Lauderdale Mercedes? Talk to sales man jerry, I think that was his name, $42,500 down from $46,991. Seems like a deal on a low mike I modified 2004. I don't think it'll last long at that price. I'm trying to sell my stupid Jetta hybrid or I'd prob buy it. I know it seems weird going from a Jetta to anporsche but at the time I had to cut back some
Where.
Considering a gt500, c6 z06 or newer s4 too. I'm all over the place. Good luck let us know what happens
