Shift does not buy or sell cars. All cars listed on the Shift platform are still owned fully by the seller. Shift is simply doing the legwork to help the seller sell their car by appraising the value of the car, arranging for the pickup and a 150-point inspection, professionally shooting the car in our studio, listing the vehicle on behalf of the seller on Shift and through a variety of listing platforms such as car forums, coordinating with potential buyers, and storing the vehicles at a secured storage facility. .

Local? (California)
If you see a car you are interested in, please comment on the thread, PM or email us directly, and we can coordinate from that point on. We can provide you with more information on the vehicle and if you’d like to move forward, we can discuss payment options such as financing, cashier’s check, wire transfer, and arrange shipping for you. If you are in the state of California, we also take care of all DMV processes such as transferring the vehicle’s ownership to you (no need to go to the DMV).

Out-of-State Buyers
For out-of-state buyers the process is the same as local buyers but, the only difference is we will not be able to take care of the DMV processes for you. We will file the Release of Liability (ROL) on behalf of the seller and will overnight the title to you after we receive payment for the vehicle.

How is buying from Shift any different from a private-party sale?
With Shift, you can rest-assured you are getting a quality vehicle that has been thoroughly inspected by our independent and certified mechanics. We will note any defects or blemishes on the vehicle through pictures as well as in our condition report so you know exactly what you are getting and there will be no surprises.

Do you take trade-ins?
Yes! Please send us a message through PM or email with the year, make, and model of your car along with license plate #, mileage, pictures if possible, and we can provide you with a guaranteed value for your car that can be put towards the purchase of the vehicle you are interested in. In addition, after your vehicle sells, you will also receive an additional bonus contingent on what we found during our inspection.
