Replacing rear pads for DIYers

So I did my front brakes on my 2006 FS without any problems then went to try the rears. I heard that you needed a scan tool to release the calliper but tried it anyhow. Let me tell ya that it is impossible to do without it. I tried every single way from applying the E brake to opening up the bleeder screw. Nothing worked. Was almost gonna take it to the dealer but just couldn't bring my self to do that since I love working on my own cars soooo much.

Looking online I could either get a Vag Com program that needed to be connected with a lap top or get this little gadget:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CAN-b...#ht_4018wt_836

Opted for the hand held. Still had to do some research to find out how it made the callipers open because there is no simple option to do that as I thought there was. Little digging and there it was.

So for anyone else wanting to do the same here's how:

1. Go to the (53) Parking Brake option
2. Select Basic Setting (4)
3. Enter number "007"

Now the callipers are opening but you will still need a large C clamp to squeeze the piston in. After new pads are in stalled and everything is bolted back up do:

1. Go to the (53) Parking Brake option again
2. Select Basic Setting (4)
3. Enter number "006"

The piston is now closing. Do 1 more step to cycle the piston:

1. Go to the (53) Parking Brake option again
2. Select Basic Setting (4)
3. Enter number "010"

That cycles the piston a few times. After that press exit and your good to go!!!

I would really like to know what other things the scan tool can do in Basic Setting in other sections of the vehicle. If anyone could help, please let me know.
