Help diagnosing a problem

Hi guys,

Last few days I have noticed a slight issue. I have a whining noise coming from the engine bay. Seems to appear at lower revs and the whining increases as I increase RPM, however its not there throughout the rev range.

Doesn't seem to be from the engine itself, car is driving just fine and everything works.

I have tried the obvious things eg turning off the a/c, but that's not helping.

The whining is quite loud, and embarrassing!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, upon further investigation noise changes when turning the steering, appeared to be coming from the front of the engine and was louder in the morning.

I investigated this morning and established that the power steering fluid level was low, I have since topped this up and the noise has now disappeared and back to normal.

However, I have done some further research this afternoon and discovered on a VW Phaeton forum that a similar problem exists, however owners have reported that low fluid could be as a result of a leaking pipe. Is this a problem you are aware of on the Bentley?

Anyway, I have topped up the fluid and will monitor.
