Bentley Dealer repaired hose with DUCT TAPE?? And DINGED my door!

Hi all:

Two issues with my dealer that I wanted to share. I want your input.

First:
I was having trouble with the CEL light coming on with my 09 Flying Spur and have been in and out of my local Bentley dealer for months as they tried to fix everything. $13,000 and weeks in their shop later, I hoped they did the repairs correctly.

They started by replacing the MAF-sensor. Then they found a cracked vacuum hose and had to take out the engine to get to it. Then the CEL still came on and they found 'dirty' sensors. They finally fixed it last week.

Then last night the car stalled while driving. Restarted multiple times, but the best I could get was a crawl speed as the engine wouldn't rev above ~2,000RPM.

Looked under the hood to find a broken hose with air rushing into the intake where the hose had come off. Upon further inspection I found that they had tried to attach this broken hose via DUCT TAPE and electrical tape!! This hose gets SUPER hot and of course the tape melted and caused the hose to break off. I also found the intake vents to be out of place on both sides.

Here's a video of the broken hose. Also attached are pics of the DUCT TAPE hack job.

I re-taped it and limped it to the dealer this morning. My service advisor couldn't apologize enough and was very genuine. He's a great guy. Brought the shop Forman out and neither of them could believe they their guys tried to "tape it up" in hopes no one would find out. Our guess is that he accidentally broke it last week when trying to repair something else, and tried to cover it up.

They happened to have the complicated hose in stock and are installing it as they speak. My advisor said it's a $700 hose. At least they're re-fixing it for free.

Second:
They (or someone else while in their possession) DINGED my door!!

After picking the car up the other day after service, I noticed the ding. It chipped the paint and left a very minor (but noticable) dent in the metal.

Here's a video of the ding:

They first tried to say they didn't do it, but then went back to look at the sheet they fill out when I drop the car off and confirmed it wasn't marked. My service advisor said their body shop guy was on vacation but when he gets back that they would "split the bill" because that was 'fair'?? Do I have the right to have it repaired at another body shop? And shouldn't they front the whole cost? They're going to have to repaint that door and blend the entire side. Properly it should be a $1500 paint job!

What are your thoughts? Am I being too picky? I'm very happy with how the dealer is currently fixing the issue with their tape hack job on the hose, but I'm more concerned for how they will handle the door ding. This car is my baby, I want it perfect!

Any and all thoughts appreciated!

I think they should pay for the door damage. Of course, they can say it isn't done by them but you can't proof it since you took the car home. However, you do have proof they didn't fix your car right and that gives you the benefit of the doubt.

Next time, take pics of the car when you drop it off and inspect it when you pick it up. Take odometer pic too.

The door should be under a grand to fix even at a dealer.

Yipes! Must admit the Boston Bentley dealer, while typical dealership expensive, did things right and they diagnosed problems properly. Since am now in FL like you, please let us know (or PM me) which FL Bentley dealer is problematic so I can avoid them. If you happen to be near Tampa area, try European Starr as have had great results with them.

GTC2007 is an unknown quantity at this point
My god, that's unbelievable! Are they a proper affiliated Bentley dealer? I agree ULSTRUP, you should elevate the matter to Bentley USA first, if no success then contact them in Crew UK, they have a customer service number for the USA +1 800 777 6923. Number for the UK is +44 1270 653 653. It should be about the Bentley experience, however thus far I'm not impressed, Mercedes were much better to me My dealer also isn't the best, left bolts out of the cover under the car, brakes started to squeal 1000kms after the last service and is located 350kms away. I'm looking at using an independent service specialist closer to home. If the ding wasn't there before and they have omitted to note the fault, its clearly therefore happened whilst in their custody, however if you have only noticed it when you returned home they will obviously state it was OK when it left them.
Good Luck

Straight to Bentley HQ. That kind of work, or bodge, is totally unacceptable. Personally I would be horrified, especially as my dealer is 550 miles away.

GTC 2007. There is a fanrastic Indy in Crewe if you ever get over the water. GT services.

Les.
