2000 M5, Silver on black, 100K mi., full service history.
Are these cars good daily drivers? Only down side I've seen since researching has been that the mileage isn't great and maintenance can be pricey (oil super expensive).
Guy's asking about $17K. Claims to be pretty damn clean and pics seem to prove it.

I have a 2001 and love it. I would look at a 2001-2003 model for improvments both cosmetic and internal. Dont buy the cheapest M5 you can find. Spend a litte more $$$ upfront and save in the long run. Check out www.m5board.com for more e39 specific info.

Where is that car Studio city, California? If It is I've seen it and its in bad shape I wouldn't buy it for $10k seriously

Carbon build up can happen to ANY of the E39 M5's.......not just the 2000......and it is very expensive to fix from the dealer......especially since really all it's doing is generating a check engine light....AND they have come up with a software fix that eliminates that.....
This M5 is $16,900 and he might go cheaper.....I know this car VERY well as I sold it to HIM about 5 years ago....he's a VERY cool guy....an atttorney up north....had two Porsche turbos back then (500hp 930 & 993) and was the one who turned me on to modded Pcars.....this is a killer deal......

I would stay away from 00's. Great cars though very expensive maintenance, I almost bought an 03' awhile ago. I would take an E39 M5 over an E60 M5 hands down any day of the week, I don't care what extra performance the E60 has, the E39 M5 has this raw characteristic thats missing from the E60.
atr911.....the E39 M5 is a great car. As others have said though, it is very expensive to repair. If you truly love this car for the engineering, then do not let the maintenance deter you from driving one. Pick up an aftermarket warranty (Ex: Easy CAre) that will pick up the big repairs (VANOS, ignition coils, etc.).
I recently bought my second E39 M5 in April and I'm enjoying it more than my first one.
