M5 >>>>> CTS-V
M5 = superior quality build.
When I'm 85 I'll get a caddy with all that CHROME. The car looks like $h!t.
Oh btw on shear principle because it's a GM (Gov't Motors) I would not buy it.

Those that denigrate the SMG please explain the issue(s). Also someone states the M5 "just didn't do it for me" yet writes on speaking well about the M5?
I do not get it.
I have the SMG and love it. I've driven the M5 with the 6 spd MT and it truely sucks.
On a ballz out run can you shift a manual faster than the SMG?
What is the MB slushbox better?

I would only wish the M5 had the DCT.

MPG was not a big concern for me either. At least not monetarily. But when you're looking for a gas station at least twice a week, it's downright annoying.
That is truly (as stated) horrendous

I thought my E55 AMG was bad - it regularly gets around the 13 mark, 15 with decent driving and 19 cruising on the highway

My SL55 AMG in Chicago... 7 - I have yet to see anything worse than that

Ranger - you and I tend to agree on nearly everything. I guess the SMG we just don't. Even on the highest setting, I did not like the delay in the 1-3 shifts. Now, from 3 on the shifts were super fast. I actually liked the shifting in my 335i Steptronic much better.

It wasn't the cost of the gas to me either...it was the constant trips to the station to fill up.

The M5 is worlds better looking from the outside and inside than the Caddy.

An M5 with DCT?????? Game Over.

I also will never own another GM/OM car.....yes, that is Gov't Motors/Obama Motors

You guys are !!

The CTS-V outperforms the M5 in almost every way at about 70% the price. I think the M5 is an amazing car... but the look is getting a bit outdated imo. The new CTS-V ROCKS!

I liked my M5, but it just wasn't as quick in a straight line as I was used to. It is definitely more fun to drive with the SMG than the E55 or E63 with the standard auto.

Thanks everyone for the input. I should have a chance to drive both cars this weekend.

The gas mileage does suck and as one poster said it's not the $$ but the frequent stops that get annoying..

Ranger: I'd love to see the day you get a caddy....(never)

At this point I would say it is down to these two cars. Let me know your thoughts or comparisons.
Neither, get one of these

I'd buy the M5 - slower than the Caddy, but better in many other ways.

$.02

What!!
The caddy just barely inches ahead of the M5 yet having more bhp and torque using a blower. Wow caddy with a blower barely beats the NA M5.
Buy a used '06 M5 for $48K and when ESS comes out with the SC'er or ASR's bolt on TT kit the fight will be fair. FI vs. FI and the M5 with 600 rwhp will blow that POS CTS-V caddy away.
btw the caddy isn't 70% less than a new M5

You must be joking right? Your going to try and use the blown motor vs n/a??? Just in case you havent noticed, the m5 has a V10, not a V8. So I am pretty sure their about even on how they got their power. I would personally rather have a supercharger then a huge V10.

Get the Cadillac, its a great car, and it seriously is fun to drive. You will also feel better you spent less, for more for a daily driver.

Ranger, i said 70% of the price, not 70% OFF... the guy is looking for a DD, so based on that information, I'm assuming he's not going to want to drop another 30K in mods. Why is the CTS-V such a horrible choice? you get it way cheaper than an M5, it's "inches" faster than an M5 and it handles amazingly well. Many magazines have already stated it handles better than an M5. For a DD, why wouldn't he seriously consider that?? I'm not trying to argue with you about how with this $$$ you can make an M5 destroy the CTS-V...
