Jesus have you read anything I've written. 200K car please! One of my M5's I picked up used with 8,900 miles, Brembos, exhaust, software, wheels for 52K. Lets see a 3 year old caddy ... crap.
The M5 on the video had 9K in mods but come lets see a caddy do mid 10's.
V8 or V10 whatever you like. Displacement is similar but I prefer the high revving screaming engine.
Oh Flash68 so whats the issue, are you a San Fran liberal (Pelosi country)??

Look Ranger, I hate to point out the painfully obvious but perhaps it may help you give the OP some advice that may actually be relevant to his original question. He HAS a 10.XX car, its a GM. He said he has a stock ZO6 as well, also GM. When I see that, I understand that the OP may actually like GM cars. People like different things, for different reasons. He has also stated this is a DD, not a drag car, or track car. I am gathering you prefer the M5. Based on everything I have seen, the CTS-V v2 seems like a pretty well sorted car, sweet motor, and reasonably comfortable. Some people like that sort of thing too. Its part of the reason 6speed offers a bunch of different forums, for enthusiasts with DIFFERENT tastes.

I'd also like to add that this morning during a spirited morning drive I happened upon a bright yellow ZR-1. Ended up next to him at a light, both of us first. Cool guy, we chatted for a minute. Driving the tt, most other cars seem slow, this one, not so much. What a sweet sounding motor. I certainly understand the appeal of having it in a 4 door sedan.

Now this is an intelligent and well-thought out post. I was thinking the same exact thing about the GM-liking of the OP.... I guess it wasn't very obvious?

I have driven both. The M5 lacks the low end grunt the V has. Hit the V from a standstill and it will smoke the tires through 1-3rd gear.. The M5.. Not even as much as a squeek. The V feels WAY faster to drive from the extra 170tq it has compared to the M5. Then I'm sure your aware of what gas mileage an LS motor gets, I averaged 25mpg in the V on a 60 mile hwy drive. Didn't get to test the M's hwy mpg, but it was reading 8.7mpg when I drove it. If none of that sells you, just sit in the V's Recaros for a minute and that should do it for you! Good Luck on your decision!

Yes - I have 7 GM vehicles currently. 2 Z06's. 3 1969 442's. A suburban and a 3/4 ton duramax. I have always owned American and I have a very good relationship with a local Chevy dealer.
I have never owned a BMW or any other German car. I am not pre-disposed to get another GM. I have been considering getting some kind of daily driver since my truck will have a plow on it this winter. I have considered an Audi A4/S4/RS4/A5/S5/S6 - the BMW M3 & M5 and the caddy CTS-V. Even toyed with the idea of getting a GTR.
I have narrowed the search down to the M5 and the CTS-V for various reasons that make sense to my wife and myself. On her side of the list is a 4 door - on my side of the list is something with HP and fun to drive. These two cars seem to fit the bill.
I will even grant you your 650 hp with "$1-2K mods" yeah right.
As Nike says, just do it! Lets see your caddy run a 10.57 sec pass and 130 trap. DO IT!
Stop theoretically talking about it and DO IT. Lets see your 650 plus hp caddy run mid 10's.
To the physicist here talking about what's not possible well this was a 4200 lbs sled running 10's. Many modded 997 TT's are not running mid 10's.
Show me a caddy with all the bolt-ons you want run mid 10's. Short of a built motor come on do it.
We did it here in So. Florida with our M5.
And again to all the comments about purchase price. You can buy a used excellent M5 for $48K. Cheaper than the CTS-V then mod away.
In contrast I would NEVER buy a used GM POS caddy.
So okay I give up. Our slow M5's down here in So. Florida do not stand a chance against GM (gov't or geriatric motors) caddy.
Oh and the M5 has a "big V10" what 5 liters. Whats the caddy's displacement? If the M5 was a 7 or 8 L V10 then I'd say okay you're right it's fair to compare against a SC'er V8 caddy.
Let me give you an example. How would the CTS-V compare against a 7L V8 Z06 or and ACR Viper(8.3L NA motor)? The caddy would be killed.
Oh notice that on the video the M5 ran a Viper and beat it.
Wait until the S85 (V10) motor of the M5/M6 gets FI done. (it's coming baby) We will make it more than fair.
Very sorry but some of you guys just do not get it.
I only want to seek and achieve the truth. You want a caddy well knock yourself out. I'll keep my M5 for years and your caddy will be a $h!t box in 2 to 3 years.

Nice rant. Is this your M5? If not, my following point may not directly apply to you.
You make it a point to say that comparing a S/C'd V8 to a N/A V10 is unfair (though I don't see how that's even really relavent...run watcha brung). Yet you're using a 150 shot of nitrous and MT drag radials to get your times.
Let's also remember that the current CTS-V has only been out for 1 year. The aftermarket is only barely starting to emerge at this point. For $2k, you can easily run high 11's on stock street tires. Some MT's would easily get this car into the low 11's!

In any event, the OP was asking about the M5 vs the CTS-V, but I understand you were tossing the (sorry, hideous) Pan. in to refute SeattleBum's assertion about the fastest sedan round the 'ring.

Hey man I do not want to say much more on this topic. DONE.
Just one thing, the caddy with headers, tune and pulley ran a 121.x trap well on motor I ran a 123.x trap. I thought the geriatric motors caddy was supposed to kill me?
Enough! Enjoy your caddy before it becomes a "rattle trap" in 2 years.
I like to buy cars that are built to last years (> 10 yrs) like BMW and Porsche.
Cheers and goodbye
